Charged fees twice for an item I never sold.

Absolutely terrible experience with eBay. A buyer and I mutually agreed to cancel a sale because the item didn’t fit their needs.
Even after agreeing on the cancellation, eBay still charged me the selling fee. Then I sold the same item again, but because the first transaction was stuck in dispute,
I couldn’t properly cancel or manage the second one either. Now eBay is charging me TWO final value fees for items that were NEVER actually sold. Over $240 in fees for nothing.
Customer support has been useless and refuses to acknowledge the cancellations or fix the issue. Sellers beware eBay will happily take your money even when both parties agree the sale never happened.

·4 months agoI'm thinking that you may have done something wrong in the transaction.
The first listing or order needed to actually be canceled on the ebay system.
Then, the customer would have been refunded and you would have been refunded.
Then you would have listed the item to sell again for the second time. This should have been a new listing with a new listing number. And when you sold, the customer paid you and you paid your fees and shipping costs (when shipped) for the second listing to ebay. If you needed to cancel the second order the same thing would have happened as above, customer refunded and you are refunded.
My thought is that you didn't actually cancel the first order on the ebay system. There would be no reason for the second order to be affected as it should have had a different listing number. If you simply relisted it with the same number then the system couldn't process the second order since it was already sold on the first order and you didn't cancel the first order.
Please note as it is important, it is not good to cancel orders on ebay. If the customer actually requests it is fine but otherwise it can get your account into trouble.
If this isn't the reason then someone with more experience should be around soon to reply.

·4 months agoHow about returning here and telling us in detail exactly all the steps involved in the order they were taken?
For instance, agreeing mutually to cancel does not actually cancel unless the seller does cancel the transaction with eBay.

·4 months agoWell considering I've been selling for 27 years and this has literally never happened, I guess I have nothing to beware.
Every cancellation I've done has always resulted in my fees being refunded. If you are not seeing an option to cancel the order, you can simply refund the order in full and it will have the same result.
Complaining here isn't going to get you any fee credits.

·4 months agoThere is a procedure to cancel a transaction. It's intentionally strict because many people try to sell off the platform & ebay wants it's pound of flesh. Lot of information missing from this.
