charge by ebay for stopping an auction
When I listed a gold coin for auction Ebay inserted wrong and conflicting information on the coin. I stopped the auction and resisted it being extremely careful not to let the wrong description go on again. They then billed me $410.75 for correction their stake. What do I do?
I tried to correct it when I got questions asked about the wrong item. The system would not let me so if it had gone on I wouldn't have been able to deliver the item with the wrong description.

·1 year agoWhen selling mobiles on ebay, at one point I thought I would save time by selecting the item from the catalogue so the specifics would be automatically filled. That idea didn't last long as ebay's catalogue specifics are riddled with laughable errors.
I assume the op means something similar and not the AI description, as that would be begging for trouble.

Unexpectantly ending an auction for any reason is one of my major pet peeves.
Records are being set in adding to my list in the last few days.

·1 year agoSometimes if you explain to eBay what happened and that you are a new seller, eBay has been known to waiver the fee. You would need to call them and plead a convincing case that it was a mistake what happened and you did not understand what the penalty was.

·1 year ago@jackmillerlv good idea from @stephenmorgan to contact eBay CS, but a basic call back may prove less than effective as it would be from off-shore CS that likely would not understood, and can't do anything anyway.
contacting on facebook or other would be a better route

Last year I got ripped off for three silver dollars from China. Ebay instructed me to sent them back. That would be illegal and I am guessing that listing known counterfeits is probably also illegal but Ebay still does it.
This arbitrary charge is huge. $470. I may be a little stupid to have not noticed that they had changed my listing right away but when people started making offers on the wrong item after one day I thought it was best, and most honest, to get it corrected.
The $470 fine came from out of the blue. I have been with them since 1997

·1 year agoI hope that you don’t mean that you used eBay’s faulty AI capability to write the description and that there was incorrect information included there. That has been known to happen.
Another possibility is that you adapted your listing from an existing listing and the Item Specifics carried over from that one to yours.
Or both these things could have occurred.
But eBay does not make changes nor does it insert anything into someone’s existing listing.

if you canceled bids on it and then ended it i am not sure what fee's there would be other than a listing fee
that fee would be disclosed at the bottom of the page where you click to list it.
At any rate when you list a item you have to pay close attention to any data provided by ebay and you have the option to edit it or remove it before you list the item, ebay doesn't change it after the fact.
you can always request customer service to call you and you can appeal the charges, but if it was something you had control over and simply overlooked it, then consider it a learning experience. it happens......

I'm really curious as to what specific info eBay inserted into your previous listing.
I sold a few things on eBay, years ago, using this ID, and also probably a couple hundred under my selling ID, over the course of roughly 15-16 years in total.
And nobody at eBay has ever inserted anything into any of those listings.
I wonder why eBay singled you out.
Could you have simply made a mistake in your own listing ??

I don't sell only buy so I don't know. Was this after you wrote your description etc. and eBay inserted bad information when you listed?

·1 year ago'stopped the auction'...eBay always charges fee on highest bid even if you end the listing.
And new or infrequent sellers will have a hold of 30 days before you get the funds.
So don't end this early now or you will get another eBay fee.
Even though you are selling this in the USA...a buyer using 'freight forward' as an address can buy your item from another country.
'$410.75'...you gotta paid that or eBay will take it from your banking account from what is listed...sometimes in 4 days.
This is not the place to sell one expensive item once a year.

·1 year agoYou needed to cancel the bids before you ended the auction. You did not and therefore have to pay the final value fee.
You owe Ebay $410.75. An expensive tuition for a learning experience.

OP11 months agoUp until this transaction I have been with with eBay since 1997. Never again will I buy or Sell on eBay.

·1 year agoI can’t see the previous listing, but this one has a bid, so if the other listing had any bids, yes, eBay charges a final value fee when you end a listing with bids.
I’m hoping you realize, at that price point, eBay will hold your funds for 30 days when it sells.
