Cannot use ebay gift cards and ebay support is completely useless
I have multiple gift cards on my account on >$100, but I am unable to use them to purchase any high value item (I guess $100 and above). Ebay told me this is a widespread issue, and after giving me a timeline of 2 days to solve the issue, didn't reply for 4 days. I called customer care today again and escalated to a supervisor who told they don't offer compensation for gift cards that cannot be used, and that there is NO timeline when this issue would be solved by their IT department.
They somehow think if multiple people are suffering from this issue then somehow it's better? Is there any place I can complain about this, or any resolution that goes beyond the horrible ebay support?
The purchase is a computer part so ebay gift cards are a valid payment method. I added these gift cards to my bids, but when my bid is accepted I am told to use another payment method. And I lierally purchased another gift card to see if this was just an issue with existing cards, but even the new one didn't work.
My account is >10 years old and I have used thousands of dollar worth ebay gift cards before.

·7 months agoI have $600 worth of gift cards on my account with the same issue. It just says payment pending or still processing.
eBay customer service has no idea what's happening, what do I do now, I thought having this money on my account would be safe as I order stuff very frequently.
I hate their lack of responsibility and accountability.

·10 months agoThis is STILL an issue. I had a return put on a gift card and have called them five or six times. Their customer service agents say they will resolve it in 48 hours, nothing happens, rinse and repeat. The gift cards don’t work and disappear after trying to use. This is insanely unprofessional for a company trading at $90 currently. I expect this resolved and am not going to let it go. Idk how this hasn’t gotten to the press yet as this is widespread and it feels like something very fishy is going on especially since they recently pushed a discount on purchasing gift cards. Add the fact that it is near impossible to reach a human in the first place and it looks even more shady. A lot of times the number will say it is not during normal business hours at noon on a weekday. This is emberrassing for them and if this continues to happen it’s going to be even worse when it goes public. I expect this resolved and as stated before, I’m not going away.

·1 year agoI am having an issue with an ebay gift card. It's a $200 card that I used for a purchase. As soon as I have a gift card accepted, I usually discard the card as ebay had always been good about keeping track of the balance. I subsequently made an offer for an item and used the remainder of the gift card balance - the gift card automatically appeared and I checked it for use. It was accepted as payment and I got an email that the seller took my offer. However, it said that the payment was not accepted. I contacted eBay and I finally got a rep that dug into the card, found the number and acknowledged that there was $116 left on the card. I explained that, because the card had been accepted before, I threw it out. He said he would send an email for me to retrieve the balance on the card. Of course, the email requires me to provide images of the card, the receipt and the confirmation printout.
I find this a total scam. There was no reason for the card not to work as the system allowed my offer to be accepted when I used the card. I tried contacting ebay again - they always say that I will get a return call within a minute which I did previously. Now they aren't calling back.
Any suggestions?

·1 year agoHi everyone. I tried again last night with the $30 card that was in the system and I bought a baseball card last night. It processed properly. I tried to buy a second card an hour later but the gift card didn't work giving me the same error message. I tried again this morning and the gift card was debited correctly. It seems like the gift card payment process is shaky but working on occasion so they must be working on something.

·1 year agoGo to contact and help on top of my ebay home page ,Click it . it will send you to help page and near bottom of page has call back click and go to seller fee box click it and you see robot question click it . It will open a page strip on right side type in need call back , again you may need to type call back needed . It ask you reason just type seller fee's. .it will then give a option call back or talk live help by typing questions.

·1 year agoHave you been able to use your cards yet? I purchased 2 cards a few days ago. I tried to use the cards but they wouldn't work and the Add Gift Card option said there were no cards with these numbers in the system. I tried again this morning and they worked so I "paid" for a $6 baseball card. It sat with payment pending for hours and then I got an email saying it canceled the payment method. So I have $30 in the system that won't work yet. I haven't tried again. It looks like they are changing something but they should at least keep customers who use gift cards in the loop.
