Bullion Tax Refund
I purchased bullion in October 2025, and I paid tax on that purchase. Total taxes paid were $232 even though I should not pay taxes because in our state we dont have to pay taxes on bullion. Before purchasing I called ebay customer service and they said go ahead and purchase and pay the taxes and then call us and we will refund you the taxes that you paid. It is now April 4, 2026 and I still haven't received any refund. I called ebay customer service more than 6 times and they keep telling me they emailed tax department and I should wait more. What is happening here ? Ebay I am very disappointed.

·5 months agoYou have to contact your state's tax office. You have to file the forms for over payment of taxes. They can tell you what forms you need. You can often find them on the state's web site and print them out. You also will have to print out all the eBay info for that purchase and attach it.

·5 months agoWhat was the category the item was listed under? That often determines if it is taxable..for example if the seller listed it as a collectable, then it would be taxable in your state. The item needed to be recognized as bullion or currency for eBay to pick it up as non taxable in your state.
You can contact your state's franchise tax board to go about getting a refund. Once eBay collects the tax it is forwarded to them. I believe all 50 states say, if you collect a tax on a sale, whether or not it should have applied, you do have to forward that tax to the proper jurisdiction.
