Anyone having trouble with Ebay gift cards?
So, I have been on Ebay around 17 years, buying, and I used to sell. In that time, I have gotten Ebay gift cards for Christmas, birthdays and other special days. I got a $50 gift card from my wife for Father's Day she purchased from the grocery store. After Father's Day, we went on vacation, and when we came back, 2 days ago, I tried to use my Ebay gift card. I spent about $30 on a car part, and had about $19 left over. I went to buy another car part, and when I went to pay, the card number came up with a box next to it on the check out screen, which I selected, then it said there was an error and I could not use it. I refreshed, then it no longer showed the card balance, and if I manually entered the card number it said error. I checked the balance on my card thru Ebay, and it said $0.00 using the balance checker. I got on chat with an account rep who said it could be of suspected fraud, and she'd try to get my card balance unfrozen in 48 hours. Yesterday I got an email stating that;
"
Thanks for contacting us about your concerns regarding the frozen gift card.
We need specific documentation to complete your request.
For physical gift cards, all of following information is required:
- A photo of the back of the eBay gift card(s) with the redemption code(s) and bar code(s) visible
- A photo of the receipt used to purchase the eBay gift card(s)
- A handwritten note containing your eBay username and the current date. The handwritten note must be included in every photo."
I was able to take pics of the card, and added a note with date, but how do they expect me to get a receipt for a GIFT card, when I didn't buy it? The whole point of a gift card is it is a gift. Asking for a copy of the receipt from the giver is tacky. Besides, I asked my wife who said she bought the card at the grocery store while buying food and she's not sure where the receipt is. So, now I am in limbo here. I told Ebay if they really suspected fraud to call my local police department and file a complaint, otherwise, I should be presumed innocent and have my balance restored asap, as I have been a pretty reliable Ebay member. I need these parts and I am beyond **bleep** off at this point.
Has anyone ever run into this issue? This will be my last time asking for a Ebay gift card when people ask me what I want for my birthday or Christmas. I can't imagine Amazon doing this stupid nonsense, but if they do, I'll stop using them as well. End rant, thanks for listening. - Sirex
