48 Hold Payouts
on Tuesday morning right after midnight I self took a payout from Ebay because that’s all I wanted to withdraw and then I shut my debit card off as I have that options so no one hacks into my card. Ebay automatically later in the early morning tried to send the rest of the money that was available and of course since my card was off, they weren’t able to send it then they sent me the Standard email where I had to put in a new payout method which I just put in my existing one in again and it took it but then it put me on a 48 hour hold and from what I understand it’s up to the minute. There is no reason to have to wait 48 hours for the same card that you had in the system that you put back in I’d appreciate some help already tried the customer service and they couldn’t understand what I was talking about.

·8 months agoI’m experiencing a similar situation. After adding my debit card while maintaining my previously verified bank account from months ago, I was unexpectedly placed under the 48-hour hold. When I contacted eBay support, the agent confirmed they lack the authority to override this hold, even though my receiving account remained unchanged. I’d suggest eBay implement a warning notification—either a highlighted alert or popup window—on the account update page itself to inform sellers that certain changes will trigger payment holds.

·8 months agoif you are scared of fraud that much, open a separate a account (enter that number into ebay for payments), when the card arrives for that account enter it into ebay (for purchases) then stick the card back in the envelope put in a drawer and forget about it. (no need to shut it off)
then it is only on ebay and no where else, when the funds are received transfer them to your regular account and ride into the sunset.........
optionally you can also check mark every alert there is to have from your financial institution to better monitor what is going in and out of your account.

·8 months agoYou cannot actually set up a payment method with Ebay using a Debit card. You can set up a payment route using your bank account details but not simply using a DEBIT card. I am not sure what you are talking about here (I work with accounts by the way) What you are talking about here is cancelling the direct debit agreement between your bank and Ebay, leaving Ebay no way of making any kind of payment to you? And or taking fees and charges out either. I am also a bit confused as to why you think your debit card is going to be hacked? I am not surprised that Ebay put your account on hold. Not the cleverest thing to do?

·8 months agoYou're worried someone (who?) is going to hack into your bank card, but you're still offering 6400 listings for sale online?
Enabling and disabling access to an ACTIVE business banking account seems baffling to me...

·8 months agoDo you really think it's a good idea that the card you have on file with ebay should be "shut off"?
Why bother even having a card on file?
prestonaporter53
OP8 months agoI turned my card off so nobody can hack in. I’ve had that done before. when I do my payouts I turned it on when I use it. I turned it on. That’s my business not yours if you want to be loose with your money security that’s on you. I come asking for not advice not somebody with a smart aleck answer.

Hey, chill out! You're not being assaulted. @Inhawaii simply was chiming in here with a simple, excellent question to you based on a lot of experience that most of us also agree with.
Yes, the use of your card is your business, but remember that YOU are the one who came here with what you consider is a problem and asking for advice. By posting on this forum, you made it our business and received the good advice you admit above that you were seeking. You've received our experienced responses in good faith, so being thankful for our responses should be in order.

·8 months agoAgain, what's the use of having a card on file if it's turned off?
You are 100% correct, that's your business.

·8 months agoEbay has polices that are for their own security purposes. Just because you don't understand the reasons does not make ebay wrong.

·8 months agoHere's what I do with my checking account. I get regular deposits (not from eBay) and every now and then use the automated phone service the bank provides to move excess monies into my savings account so it's separate. I can also do that in reverse if my checking account gets a little low.
If somehow someone ever gets access to my debit or whatever they don't have access to the bulk of my money. A few hundred missing is better than a few thousand........................

·8 months agoI’m not real sure either.
Why are you removing your payment method because you think it might get hacked? What makes you think your account is at risk?
eBay simply needs a bank account to send your sales money to, so maybe consider opening a separate one just for eBay sales.

OP8 months agoI did not remove my payment method my bank in their app. You can shut your debit card off so no one can use it not removing it from eBay, but my banking app has the option to shut your card off.

·8 months ago@prestonaporter53 :
This is an unintended consequence of having a card that you can simply turn on and off over and over. I have that on all of my debit and credit cards as well, and have no need yet to use it.
I guess you need to be more judicious as to using that "convenience". Better yet, as Krazykatz mentioned, just open a checking account for your eBay operations only... many banks can offer one for free. That way you also don't have to be concerned about any expiration date.

OP8 months agoOne time 5 years ago when I was in a restaurant, the lights went out over the entire shopping center during a thunderstorm how to check everyone out they did your credit cards manually with the old slide and was just so happened. The waitress was getting credit cards numbers for someone else for $20 a card and they took me for $620 and it took me a week to get the money back

·8 months ago@prestonaporter53 :
That was 5 years ago in a restaurant with the power going out, and is a totally different thing than selling on eBay with a regular bank checking account. I'm thinking that you are unnecessarily concerned to the point of turning on and off your debit card.
Another risk you're taking is using a debit card instead of a credit card. Many, if not most banks do not have protections against fraud for debit cards. Credit cards do. As I said earlier, open and use a bank checking account for your eBay operations only.... Save a lot of time by not having to keep track of turning things on and off, and lower your concerns about fraud.

·8 months agoAbsolutely, it is actually easier to access someone's account via a Debit card than it is to do so via a High Limit Credit card. In order to cancel a Debit card, you have to physically contact the bank (during working hours) and get a banking CSO to deactivate it. Credit cards can be deactivated within an APP or via online websites, often within minutes. (Several Banks/Financial institutions within Australia, allow you to do this now) Debit transactions are NOT automatic and you do NOT automatically get notification when money is debited from your account. I know for a fact, that if i have a transaction go through on a weekend or public holiday, my bank, will NOT send me an SMS notification that this has occurred. Also if I look at my online banking, the payment debit (or credit) does not automatically appear either.

·8 months agoSo, you were eating in a Restaurant that was in the middle of a shopping Center? Don't you mean shopping mall? The last time I went to Aldi's, there was no Restaurant inside of the store.
prestonaporter53
OP8 months agoIt’s called town Center. It’s not a mall. Waterford Lakes Town Center

·8 months agoIt sounds complicated and like a time-consuming hassle to me, but I’m old and prefer to keep things simple.
I do use a separate account here for security, then transfer funds to my regular account when needed.
Maybe scroll to the bottom of the page, click on Contact Us, and have an agent give you a call.

·8 months agoBetter still, don't call any agents from the Ebay call-centre, just instead, run headlong into a brick wall at high speed, until you fall down unconscious. It will feel about the same as talking to an Ebay Customer Service Rep, operating out of one of those overseas call centers, from you know where! The last one I spoke to, had about the same level of business acumen, as a standard house plant. I advised them of this and stated, that as far as houseplants go, they DO NOT behave in a passive/aggressive manner, neither do they take sides against me, or attempt to Gaslight me. Unlike the average CSO working for Ebay. When I advised the last customer service rep from WOEBAY, as to why a buyer wanted a refund (because the item i sent them, does not work- later i found out, it was because they failed to put batteries into the item and when they finally did, they put them in the wrong way around and could not understand that they have to go in Positive to Negative etc. (on a slightly sadder note, the Buyer was clearly "challenged" as demonstrated by the messages they sent me) Ebay still forced me to give them a refund!! (It was simply easier than going through the rigmarole of trying to organize a return.) What did WOEBAY do to assist me, absolutely NOTHING!! (Except put my funds on hold) So I got two lots of funds on hold in less than 24 hours, Thank you EBAY FOR NOTHING!!

·8 months agoI don't know what country you are in, so I might be off the track here, but no you cannot just shut your debit card off so nobody can else use it- I am assuming there are other fees and charges coming out of that card as well. In order for your debit card to no longer work, you have to contact your bank and cancel that card, and then it becomes null and void. The bank then will issue you with a new (debit card) and generally unless there is a valid reason for the bank issuing you with a new card, (e.g. lost, stolen, expired or damaged card) you have to pay to have that card replaced. What an odd thing to do???
buyselljack2016
·8 months ago48 hours is the hold time.
apparently eBay has not written code to eliminate that 48 hour hold just because the card was there before
only help that I can offer is to wait the 48 hours as that is eBay policy
