ebay greed
What’s with charging a percentage of the tax payed by the buyer to the seller as a fee. Really? That is one of the most blatant abuses of customer trust I’ve encountered in a while. Why do we submit like sheep to this obvious exploitation of ebay customers. It must be because we want to sell stuff. So we’re willing to put up with ebay **bleep** us for every cent they can before what they are doing becomes illegal. Why does ebay push the limit of what they can charge? If there is another reason other just getting what can be quickly gleaned from customer before more executives bail? No one is saying. You can’t even get hold of this giant oozing slim ball called ebay by phone anymore. They have put a layer between themselves and us that gets harder and harder to get through. They got us just ware they want us. No wiggle room, no where to turn for assistance! They are backing us up against the wall. Why? If there is a reason besides greed, I would like to know it.

·2 years agoEBay tells you upfront that the final value fee is based in the entire purchase price: item + shipping + tax. We are all playing by those rules. If you don't like it, you don't have to play at all.

OP2 years agoTrue and true. However, the cost of doing business is ebay’s problem. A little creativity would be useful. Any idiot can just raise prices and increase fees to make up for business ineptitude. Go peddle your ridiculous justifications to someone else.

Thanks for the suggestion; however, I believe you will understand why I don't plan to do so.
When people respond here (and that includes me) they are usually trying to explain. None of us are eBay employees.
And, bottom line, since the site belongs to eBay, eBay can pretty much do whatever it wants.
Like just about any business, eBay is responsible to stockholders. And the stockholders want them to make money.

Do you not believe that it costs eBay some money to handle the state sales tax for at least 46 states, not to mention the various entities within those states that may have varying state sales tax rates?
Since we all recognize that this is eBay's site, therefore eBay's rules (and fee schedule), it's hard to understand why people still question this.
And, if your next suggestion is rebellion or a class action lawsuit, good luck with that.

Not sure there is a limit, unless it could get so high that thousands of sellers would leave, but wouldn't that just leave more opportunities for those who remain?
