Tax/shipping should NOT be included in Final value fee
It should NOT be allowed for EBay to include the shipping cost and tax as part of final sale when calculating the final value fee. This is just another way for EBay to force the seller to give up additional earnings. I’m familiar with the old days when sellers jacked up shipping higher than auction price but that’s no longer a problem because EBay is auto calculating ship cost. And what the heck does tax have to do with the seller? I’m not collecting it, not paying it, so why am I being charged a fee for it??
Back in the day EBay use to be the place to go. I could find better deals on eBay than somewhere like TJ maxx but those days are long gone. This right here is exactly why SO Many sellers have transitioned to Facebook and other auction related sites.

·1 year agoYes!!! I haven't sold an item in a few years. I sold an item recently and made a whopping $.01 profit but because Ebay is charging the final auction value against shipping and taxes, they are charging me $1.07 ... insane!!!

I never do.
The fees you pay are fully disclosed. Pay them or go elsewhere to sell.

·1 year agoThis is exactly why you pay fees on it, so you do not have to file tax returns in all the states you sell to. eBay handles all of that. And for the miniscule amount of fees they actually collect on the tax itself, I consider it well worth it to not have to deal with that nightmare.

·1 year agoNot meeting the requirements set by most states (sales tax jurisdictions) I would not be required to collect/remit. And no, the states would not be rewriting the laws so that I would have to do so. They wrote them as they are to specifically not harm the small interstate seller.

·1 year agoHow long would you give 'creative' sellers before they exploited the shipping fees through ebay calculated shipping?
i.e. 'normal' seller offers a DVD for 6.00 via Media Mail...8 ounces in a bubble mailer for 4.63 (for a total sale of 10.63)
... 'creative' seller offers same 8 ounce DVD in same bubble mailer but instead of 8 ounces in the calculator, puts 48 ounces ($6.13) and lowers the price of the DVD to 4.50 (total of $10.63)
creating a lower FVF for the creative seller and punishing the normal seller...all using the calculator as you described as 'no longer a problem'.

·1 year agoIt is your choice to sell here or not, no one is forcing you to do so. The rules are all laid out and you agreed to them when you listed your item. There have been fees on shipping for over 14 years and I don't think for the small amount of money eBay charges on the actual sales tax for that part of the fee, you don't want to handle that yourself.
Is everyone happy paying fees, of course not, but it is what it is. Frankly, you should be calculating the cost to sell before even listing to see if it is worth the time to list.
That's right, you are not actually collecting the monies, you are paying someone else to do that job and to host your items on the site. Not much difference then you buying something at the store with your credit card, the store pays a fee to the credit card company on the transaction, it isn't free for them.

·1 year ago1st-they could just charge 25% of the selling price. This is not a government agency. This is a company that can calculate any way they want to and it is VERY clear what they a.) charge fees b.) what they charge fees on- so you can decide BEFORE you click 'List It' (see pic below)
2nd: ebay is NOT 'auto calculating' anything. I use a 'flat rate' price of MY choosing and purchase my labels elsewhere.
3rd: Just like processors have done for Brick/Mortar stores since the advent of the credit card, the 'fee' is on the 'total paid at the register'.
