Selling some Dj Equipment
Summary: mgaillot10 is selling a DJ controller that has been minimally used and expressed concern about a potential scam after a buyer purchased it without waiting for a response about defects. christworks advised ensuring that all flaws are listed in any sale and suggested either proceeding with the order carefully or canceling it, acknowledging potential risks with both options. They also recommended considering local pickup for future sales of expensive equipment to reduce the risk of scams.
Selling a Dj controller that I have opened the box and moved to a road case that has just sat. Never once taken the controller out of the house and messed with it for about 10 minutes and then stored it. I recently had someone message me in Spanish that seems to have translated to English asking about any defects. Before I could respond the person bought the controller. I feel as if I am being scammed. Something I do not want to happen as it is an expensive piece of equipment. I did message him back and he stated if everything works perfect is fine friend, blessings. Guy lives in Kentucky or at least that is where I am shipping but apparently only speaks Spanish and has like 4 names listed on his profile.

·1 week agoIf you cancel the order, you would have to do it as out of stock and Ebay would ding your account.
If the buyer paid, those funds will be on hold for 30 days and you would have to provide a funding source to pay the refund.

The listing should have described any and all flaws. Did you do that? I'm trying to figure out why they asked if there were defects. What will matter is what is in the listing, not what might have been in the messages had you responded before they made their purchase.
Listen, the reality is you should never, ever list something for sell here or anywhere else if you are not completely okay with it getting trashed or scammed. In the rare cases someone is scammed, it is not fun, but as a seller you go into it knowing it could happen. It's no different than Walmart. They know they are going to have billions walk out the door every year and they account for that in their business model. You have to do the same. If selling is just a one-off thing for you, eBay may not be the best place because it inherently does come with some low, but concerning risks. If you are going to use eBay to sell expensive equipment, local pick-up may be the best way if you are concerned about being scammed.
What to do now? You have only two options.
1) You can move forward with the order. Pack it well, ship it on-time, make sure you input the correct weight and size of the box so you pay the correct postage cost.
or
2) Cancel the sale due to being out of stock. When you do this you will get a ding on your account metrics. If you have not sold anything recently or have sold very little, this could have a heavy impact on your account. The buyer, who is more than likey sincere, will also likey be upset and may leave you negative feedback as a result.
You have to make the decision that allows you to sleep at night. If it is cancelling the order, then do it. Just don't lie about the reason. If you relist the item, list it as local pick up only. That way it is highly unlikely you will be scammed.
