Selling coins
As a new seller on eBay selling coins , how does one compete with the mega dealers selling questionable coins . I know feedback is key but I thought quality coins would stand out amongst all the junk out there.

Post the best photos that you can get.
Three years ago I inherited a family member's modest-sized coin collection, mostly American Eagle silver dollars. I knew he was really into his collection and I knew he was not buying fakes or junk. When I started selling them on eBay, my descriptions all said that I, myself, took all the the photos in the listing, they were not from any "stock" photo provider, and the buyer would receive exactly what the photos showed.
The capsule of one of those coins had a chip at the edge; I talked to a "pro" at a local coin shop who assured me that the coin itself was the main selling point and not its plastic case. But my listing included at least two photos of that chip.
Then -- once you do get a sale, pack the coin securely and send it out to your buyer as soon as you get confirmation from eBay that the buyer's payment has received. Do Use a shipping method that provides a tracking number.

·3 years agoI dont know coins, but I know fakes. LOTS of fake entertainment memorabilia gets sold.
I ask myself this: "How do I know how to tell it's fake?"
example: A real OTTO backstage pass has a line down the middle of the back, where it can be peeled off to stick to the user. I has the 'OTTO' logo on it (often faked) and most are printed on 'textured cloth'.
If I wanted to sell these I would say "This backstage pass shows the Otto logo on the back with a peel line showing it is genuine, and close examination shows beneath the lamination that it is textured cloth like a real pass would be"
For coins it might be weight or a picture side by side with a fake labelled "REAL vs. FAKE". They sell microscopic/macro USB cameras that might let you photograph something REALLY close?
When we learn how to authenticate, and share the tricks, we gain trust. Something the scammers cant do!

Which is cheaper: $100 item with $27.17 calculated shipping or $130 item with undisclosed shipping cost we know has been built into the price?
I avoid free shipping like the plague as a buyer and seller, but thats just me.
