Refund dispute
Hello! I have never listed anything before in eBay, so I’m not very familiar with the terms and policies. I listed something, and wanted to re-listed it at a different price but it immediately sold. I messaged the buyer and then requested a refund. Once the refund was complete I re-listed it at the price I originally wanted, which it was then sold. The refunded buyer is understandably upset and is telling me they are doing everything they can to get my account terminated. I’m new to selling so will I be banned for this?
edit: I’m not saying I didn’t do anything wrong, it was a stupid mistake but where do I go from here?
-Thank you!

·9 months agoDepends on how picky ebay is with you, that was really crappy on your end tho.

·9 months agoWhere you go from here is this: Before you list another thing, where you go is to read absolutely every single thing you can find about how selling on eBay works.
And then you had better start listing/selling really fast and cleanly although with 50% FB that may not be easy.
Most buyers here look for sellers whose FB is 98.6% or better.

·9 months agoBased upon the feedback thus far, you have ample confirmation of "best practices" going forward.
I won't belabor that. I would just add that you can use this experience as an extreme teachable moment.
Prior to clicking on that "list now" icon do all your homework & due diligence.
a. listing description double-checked for accuracy & completeness
b. shipping charges that reflect the true shipping requirements
c. the selling price of the item: do ALL your research & homework prior to listing
d. when completed double check everything for accuracy
e. take your time, don't rush through it
etc. etc.
Best of luck with shop and sales.

·9 months agoWOW as a buyer I'll have to put you on my wall of shame...The dry erase board on the wall above my monitor where I put the sellers I won't buy from EVER.
I can't believe you would admit to such a breach of trust on a public forum. Have you no shame?
Guess not..........................

The good news for buyers is that your FB is at 50% -- a neon sign to steer clear.
And here we've been debating the FB system, in general.
Do all the complainers see now why it's a good thing?

@caldreamer provided you with a link to the overview of how Ebay evaluates seller performance. Read and make sure you understand what it says.
On the 20th of this month, you will see the effects of your cancellation on your seller level. It will not be good.
You may already have been notified on the holds on your payments. Expect not to see any money for 30 days or longer.
If you intend to remain an Ebay seller you need to ship the second order. Make sure you insure it for the full value.

·9 months agoThe fact that you sold the item for $125 more in less than a hour seems like you may have been better off offering them in a Auction instead of Buy it Now.
Did you compare completed sales?

·9 months agoYou messed up the first sale by providing a BBE. Don't mess up the second one. Do not contact customer service, you have nothing to explain...there is no excuse for what you did to the first buyer. eBay could very well just shut you down, especially if you are convinced you did nothing wrong. Your first sale, and you committed one of the cardinal sins of selling on eBay...cancelling a sale to relist for more money from another buyer

·9 months agoYou have to honor any sales even if you lose money. You now have a big red negative in your feedback
Good luck in future sales.

·9 months agoThis is not good, you are a brand-new Seller already you "cancelled order" and relisted at a higher price. EBAY monitors all selling activity and if you have a "high level" of cancelled "out of stock" orders your account could be terminated. Because you sold "one item" and you cancelled "one item" you have a 100% cancellation rate.
EBAY does not care if you "end listing" and relist a higher price. When it becomes a problem is when you "cancelled order" that customer purchased.
EBAY also monitors all selling activity (late shipment, cancelled order, not as described, did not receive item, late shipping).

·9 months agoOf course you did, and I think you know it.
When you serll something, you are obligated to complete the transaction.
Failing to do so hurts all eBay sellers, not just you.
It erodes buyer confidence in the eBay site and discourages them from buying here.
Boo.

·9 months agoYou need to familiarize yourself with the rules and policies of ebay before you try to sell anything else.
If you look at the Ebay Cancellation Policy, it states:
A seller can cancel an order if:
So the fact that you cancelled it because you wanted a higher price is not allowed. I'm not sure what reason you gave when you submitted the cancellation, but as mentioned above, if you used "out of stock", then you got a defect on your account. But if you lied and used another reason and the buyer reported you, you'll probably still get a defect for that.

OP9 months agoOkay thank you! Would you recommend me calling the support team tomorrow to explain?
tarotfindsandmore
·9 months agoYou can't call support, but even if you could, what would you say? If you tell them what you've told us here, you will not like the response. The negative you got is fully deserved. Can you imagine walking into a shop, finding something you really want at a great price, paying for it, and then getting a call from the store asking you to return the item because they want to sell it for more. I don't know about you, but if I got a request like that, I'd tell that seller to take a looooong walk off a short pier.
Even if you're just going to be doing this as a hobby or a side hustle, it's important that you treat it like a proper business. You're going to have a very short career here on ebay if you continue to pull stunts like this.

No, I would not recommend calling eBay. What you need to do is read the terms of service for eBay sellers. Nothing like starting out on the wrong foot.
You should have never refunded the 1st buyer once it sold and instead shipped the item to them as agreed to at your listing price. That you made an error in the price is on you and you can't just say oops my bad. If I was the 1st buyer, I would be livid. I see they have already given you a big red donut which you totally deserve. You will also probably get a ding on your seller metrics as well.
Also, I hope you realize that as a new seller you are subject to at least a 30 day hold on your funds and maybe more since you canceled and refunded the original buyer and then relisted the item higher and sold it to someone else.

·9 months ago@kamck9397:
There's nothing to explain.
You messed up big time.
You didn't familiarize yourself with eBay's rules, procedures, and policies before listing and selling. And you didn't use common sense.
Read the previous reply from tarotfindsandmore. That explains what you need to know and do from now on. It would also be a really good idea to read down a few hundred posts here to familiarize yourself with the land mines to avoid when selling.
And one last thing -- you can't "call" eBay on any phone number you may have. It could put you in direct touch with a scammer.
Cheers, Duffy

OP9 months agoThank u I admit I did not handle it properly but my question now is do refund the new buyer also or should I wait to ship the item?
momtoabeautifuldaughter
·9 months agoChances are you may have already almost ended your career on eBay as a seller before it even really began.
Your very first item and you get a negative and cancel and relist at a higher price eBay is probably on to you and if I was the buyer I'd report you too.
stephenmorgan
·9 months agoI would complete the sell with the new buyer. If you were to refund the new buyer and cancel the order then you will have two mistakes documented. Just ship the item and hope eBay does not close your account.
mtgraves7984
·9 months ago@kamck9397
Whatever would you want to refund the new buyer for? Did the item not bring what you wanted in the second transaction?
And, no... you don't "wait to ship the item". You've been paid (even if it's 'Pending') so you need to ship now. Snap to it!
