Summary: vito4660, a new seller, expressed frustration after a dispute over a delivery ended in favor of a buyer despite providing tracking and proof of delivery. kensgiftshop and christworks explained that the error may have been in asking eBay to step in too soon, which can often backfire on sellers. They advised patience and possibly reaching out via eBay's social media for further assistance. The conversation highlights frequent challenges new sellers face and the intricacies of eBay’s dispute resolution process. vito4660 was advised to stay informed and seek guidance from experienced sellers in future situations.
I am a new seller and I made my first sale and the buyer said they didn’t receive the item. Well I sent it with a delivery confirmation of a signature required. When the buyer opened up a case I provided the tracking number after three days I ask eBay to step in then they asked me to send the proof of delivery and I did. The case was closed today in favor of the buyer, and the reason was because I didn’t provide the tracking number or the proof of delivery when I did I appealed it and recent the proof of delivery will I get my money or am I going to be scanned out of the money and my product? I thought eBay protected sellers from this? This isn’t right

·3 weeks agoOMG Do you realize that you shipped your two sales without insurance, if they were not shipped by Registered Mail?
I do not know how one actually gets Ebay to accept the tracking associated with Registered Mail, and I have been selling on Ebay for close to the 30 years Ebay has existed.

·3 weeks ago@vito4660 eBay probably is not the best place to sell what you are selling. All sellers are vunerable, but new ones especially. You don't want to ever start off with high dollar stuff like that.
Once eBay closes a case and your appeal is denied, there is not much you can do. Given the amount you are out, you can try reaching out to eBay through their Instagram account if your appeal is denied. When you contact them, do not provide account details. Explain briefly your situation and they will contact you with further directions.
You should not have asked eBay to step in. Providing the tracking number to the Item Not Received was all you needed to do. It would have then been on the buyer to ask eBay to step in.
Assuming you are being honest and your buyer dishonest, they probably would have not asked eBay to step in. They were likely betting that as a new seller you would not know to upload the tracking number to the Item Not Received case, then they could be ready on Day 4 to have eBay step in and rule in their favor. Instead you provided the tracking number, but also for some unknown reason asked eBay to step in. I don't know why but maybe you can explain.

OP3 weeks agoWhy wouldn’t I ask eBay to step in? I didn’t do anything wrong and the buyer received the item he had to sign for it at his address do that makes me believe he is trying to scam me . eBay told me I had til the 10th to resolve it and I uploaded the tracking info and then asked eBay for help resolve it. I thought because I had the proof of delivery with signature they would close it in my favor. That’s what all the policy’s said. I did everything right on my end and followed all of there policy’s so I didn’t think I had anything to worry about. Little do I know eBay seller protection is far from any kind of protection. All I know is I needed to come up with some extra money for my kids and school clothes. I didn’t want to even see it but did it for my kids and now I don’t have either and why? I just can’t wrap my head around this.

As a seller, you never want to ask Ebay to step in, it never turns out good for the seller.
Ebay has very little protection for sellers.

·3 weeks ago@vito4660 I am so sorry. You did everything right except asking eBay to step in. That was your mistake. I know it is counterintuitive and I do not know that my explanation will offer much comfort.
eBay has an automated process and strict policies that often seem unfair to both sellers and buyers. They have to run it as they do, even through it isn't a perfect system. eBay does not want to be in the middle of any transaction. They expect buyers and sellers to work things out, but they provide means to buyers to open cases against sellers if there is a problem. Likewise they provide a means for sellers to report buyers who violate policy.
Of course, buyers can and do lie. As do sellers. I'm not saying or implying at all that you did. I'm just explaining that eBay often does not know who is telling the truth and they do not want to have to determine that. When they have to step in because the seller requested it, they almost always come down in favor of the buyer.
Your only role was to provide the tracking number in the Item Not Received case. Once you do that, the buyer is notified and the case would have closed in your favor because the automated system would have seen it had been delivered. It is doubtful your scam buyer would have asked eBay to step in. They were expecting you to make the common mistake new (and even seasoned) sellers make which is to ignore the Item Not Recieved case. Had you done that, the buyer would have asked eBay to step in knowing they would rule in their favor. Instead, you asked eBay to step in instead of allowing the automated system to handle it.
If you read through the Item Not Received policy, you'll see eBay all but tells you as a seller you do not want to ask them to step in. There are very narrow cases where you would, but this isn't one of them since you had a delivery scan.
Going through eBay's Instagram page is probably your only hope of getting someone to actually review things and maybe get it corrected. No promises though.

OP3 weeks agoI’m waiting for my appeal to be decided. Everything I read as far as policy’s go I should win. I attached the proof of delivery with a signature. Why does anyone even sell on here? If eBay lets the buyer receive the item
And the money I will never
Sell on here again who would
i. Every time I ship something I’d worry if something would happen would I get scammed out of my money. It’s not even worth it.

·3 weeks ago@vito4660 People sell here for a variety of reasons. It is very possible to make good money doing this. Doesn't mean you never have to eat one. It happens. You take it as an expense on the next year's taxes and move on.
You seemingly knew what you were supposed to do, so good job there. The mistake was hitting that button to have eBay step in. It is one of those things that those of us who have been selling a while know not to do except in a very limited number of circumstances.
I hope your appeal goes through. If you sell here again and ever run into a problem, make sure to come to the boards first so we can advise you.
Please let us know what happens with the appeal.

·3 weeks agoWhen the box opened for the Tracking Number and it showed your Tracking Number just above the box, did you renter that Tracking Number into the box?
People have seen that the correct Tracking Number is displayed and fail to reenter it into the box. eBay will approve the claim for the buyer because no Tracking Number was entered into the box. Basically by entering the Tracking Number you are certifying that it is the Tracking Number used for the item.
christworks
·3 weeks agoThey said, "When the buyer opened up a case I provided the tracking number"
I take it they entered it, but you are right. Being new they may not have known to actaully enter it if it was already there.
