Offers vs Buy Now
I have sold a couple items since recently joining. Always use "Buy Now". No Offers. I am just a very casual seller.
I have recieved three private ebay messages on them asking for best price. The first two I did not respond to as I wasn't sure how to handle it. One bought a day later anyway. I now have a third item just listed and got an immediate message asking for lowest price. I don't want to answer that and would prefer to see what they will pay.
How should I respond to these type of messages? Ignore, counteroffer, etc. If I give my best price and they don't like it, is there any obliagtion to change my listed price? Wouldn't think so.
If I would take an offer thru messages, how does the buyer purchase it at that price? And, does all my other selling/shipping requirements stay the same. From what I can tell the buyer has a good feedback rating. At least giving feedback as a buyer.
Thanks for any help--

·1 year agoI have always responded with....
"Thanks for the interest! Currently all our items are at the 'Buy-it-now' price. But keep watching, we do from time to time adjust pricing. Thanks again"
Now, that is assuming I'm not interested in offers.
If it is a really low offer, go with...
"Thanks for the interest! But please, keep watching, if we change formats to an auction, we may start the price around what you are asking. Thanks, again"

·1 year agoWhen you respond to a buyer message, there is the ability to send the buyer an offer.
I rarely enable make an offer on my listings. When I do, I include the auto reject and auto accept parameters.
I get offers anyway.
It is rare that I respond positively to any offer. I might however block a buyer. And I am not treated as poorly as some buyers treat a new seller.
New sellers are targeted for abuse by many buyers, who want to take advantage of their naivety
If you think you know how to price your items, don't let some chiseler cast doubt.
I got a message on one item this week "I'll do $50" I responded "I won't" and blocked the buyer.

OP1 year agoThanks for the info. I haven't responded yet and doubt if I will. Out of my 3 offers on 3 itmes. One never messaged again. One bought within 24 hours anyway. And the last offer I got which was on my most recent listing, posted yesterday, someone else bought the item an hour later. Since I am in no hurry to sell and have minimal items for sale, I will just give it 30 days then decide if I want to lower price.
Actually I am quite surprised I sold all 3 items so quickly. Need to look for more 🙂
Thanks again!
