(New Seller here) Why is my listing not coming up in search?
Hi there. Maybe I don't understand what makes for a good title or something?? Here is the listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/334762113985 but when I go to search for it with terms like: "Kate Spade handbag black" and lots of other variations using words in the description, it doesn't show up in the search results. Did I err in some way? eBay seems to encourage you to make a pretty long title with plenty of information, which I tried to do, but clearly something is off. It doesn't even show up in "newly listed" searches going back to time before I posted it.
Thank you for your advice!

OP3 years agoThank you so much. I appreciate all those links--(which I will read)--being in one helpful place. There's definitely a bit of a learning curve here, but I'm trying.

·3 years agoIt most certainly is and it will take you a while to learn just the basics. The best advice I can give you is never ASSUME anything. Research FIRST.

·3 years agoIt can take up to 24 hours for a listing to index in search. If you make edits that can reset the clock.
Sometimes sellers see listings appear right away, and other times it takes the full 24 hours - especially for new sellers with designer items in high scam categories.
That type of item is pretty common and typically has a fixed market value. Auction format will not give you the best results.

·3 years agoBecause Cassini is not for what you are searching for it is what ebay wants you to see.
Use google to find ebay items.

OP3 years agoThanks for your reply. I didn't know what "Cassini" was--I thought it was a typo at first ðŸ˜, so as you may guess, this is all pretty new to me. I did find some articles with advice on how to better grab Cassini's attention, so will try some adjustments. I appreciate it.

·3 years agoOh, advice (for what it's worth).
Get rid of the / in the title.
Pick a price for it (get rid of the auction and do a Fixed Price).
Adjust your price so that you can list it with Free Shipping. (your shipping price has the appearance of being scary, run away, gougingly, high). It may not be, but it just looks that way. Don't give a person a reason to leave once they find it.
Go through your item specifics and put something in all of them. The search algorithm pics up alot of that information in a search. (it's not just looking at the item title any more).
Promote it also. Adjust your price to accommodate the promoted percentage you choose.

OP3 years agoThanks for the advice. I will adjust the title, and look at the other suggestions as well. These are my very first listings ever so I'm just figuring it out. (Honestly, I think eBay could do a better job of running us through how to sell, IMO, and what to expect). I may try out some of your suggestions on other listings too, so I do appreciate it.

·3 years agoI suggest posting that bag on the handbags forum for a definitive ID. eBay frowns upon saying it "may" be a specific item.

OP3 years agoI appreciate both your replies. Very helpful. I didn't even realize there were community forums for specific items. Thank you.

·3 years agoNo prob @nicethings321. If you have questions or if buyers file claims, come here for advice any time. eBay has a lot of policies so it can take a while to get the hang of it. Sellers here have tons of experience and are willing to help.

·3 years agoI see that your listing is in an auction format. By any chance did you schedule the start time, and the time hasn't arrived yet? I couldn't find your listing either, so that is only thing I could think of.

OP3 years agoThanks for the help, but no, it's live now.

·3 years agoI didn't see it on the 1st page (50 items per page). So, I filtered pre-owned. Still, not on the 1st page. Leaving BEST MATCH as my order criteria.
I assume the reason is. EBay says there are 6800+ results. It's not easy to be seen with that many results.
You are FAR from the cheapest (so, price low to high isn't going to get me there).
You are FAR from the most expensive (so high to low isn't going to do it either).
I don't know much about these items, but....There must be "something" special about it that a person "might" search for? Some word you can use in the listing to differentiate yourself from 6800+?
HOWEVER, what I don't like is that I'm seeing A LOT LOT LOT LOT!! of handbags that do not contain those four words "Kate Spade handbag black".
(and that's an eBay search algorithm issue/problem in my opinion)....grrrr
