Have you ever used eBay to purchase? If not, i urge you to do so, to get a feel for the platform. When ready to sell, start slow, with lower cost items, to prevent rookie mistakes from being too costly. Do not list expensive items right off the bat because you will be in the learning curve for a few months, getting experience. Research completed listings to see what the market is bearing in terms of prices. It is as important to see what is not selling as it is to see what is selling.

I strongly agree with setting up your Managed Payments before you start selling.

There will be a Hold on your customer payments for somewhere between 14 and 30 days until the money is transferred to your checking account.

You can buy shipping labels at a discount from those Held funds. But ship as soon as the money comes in, in spite of the Hold.

Also flat things like photographs can be scanned rather than photographed. This also allows for easy magnification of important points, like the photographer's stamp.

Also, sell cheap stuff first.

Use Fixed Price/Immediate Payment Required.

Before you can sell anything you must enroll in Managed Payments. You need to provide checking account (ROUTING# only) and social security# (for tax purposes). Name on your EBAY profile, checking account and social security card must be EXACT MATCH (or your application may be denied). No nicknames allowed.

When you make a sale EBAY immediately deducts (selling fees + shipping) and balance is deposited into your checking account 3-5 AFTER sale is made.

Suggest you enroll in online EBAY SCHOOL (its free). Also read EBAY Money Back Guarantee policy (which protects BUYERS). Also you should read policy on different EBAY fees (LISTING FEE for every month item is listed, SELLING FEE when your item sells, PROMOTION FEE when item sells (if you chose to promote your item), INTERNATIONAL FEE when item sells (if you customer has international account, STORE FEE paid monthly (if you decide to open EBAY store).
