Fraud Alert
I entered my contact information on a fraudulent web site (my bad), ~5 minutes afterwards I received an notification that I bought two flip phones (!!) from China. with a newly created guest ebay account. So the bad actors were pretty fast in creating the account.
I immediately cancelled the purchase and called ebay.
I was asked to wait for the response to the cancellation to continue. This was already terrible.
To no surprise, the seller mentioned that the cancellation was too late (I cancelled after max 30 minutes...). I suspect the seller is in on the fraud but who really knows, maybe s/he just does not like (fast) cancellations...
So I called ebay again, just to be lectured that there was no fraud according to ebay and that apparently one of my non-existing family members ordered those flip phones from China. This really is beyond terrible.
I have to admit that I eventually had to use profanity in an attempt to get past my disbelief about ebay.
So, I will call ebay a few more times and make sure that story gets around.

·2 years agoIf it's your credit card information that you disclosed to a scammer, call the number on the back of your card and cancel the card and any recent fraudulent charges. You won't be responsible as long as you're prompt in reporting the fraud.
They will freeze the card and will send a new card and new number.
In the future, verify that any website you are giving personal and sensitive information to is legitimate.
