eBay gift card scam
hi all, I’ve recently tried to sell shoes on here and came across a guy wanting to buy them, he said that his number was the easiest way to talk to him so I messaged it. He said he wants to add a 400 gift card so I said yes I will get u one when I get the money. And I just want to know what is going on, if it’s a scam or what. Thank you

·3 years agoAs a new seller, you can expect a lot of that. All scams. I suggest you only sell low say under 20.00 dollar items to start.

Of course it's a scam. Keep all of your communications within eBay messaging. And don't buy gift cards for strangers.

·3 years agoEasiest, sure -- easiest way to scam you with no evidence in eBay messages. Never communicate with buyers any way other than through eBay messages.
The most common scam is to send you a fake PayPal email telling you that you have been paid, often with bonus postage so you can send the items via Express Mail so it's in the buyer's hands before you realize you've been taken.

The policy is meant to protect you from such scams.
Warnings are given out on the messages you receive and send.

·3 years agoYes, absolutely a scam. Don't do it.
If you buy the card, the scammer will want you to read him the numbers on the back of the card. Once he has those numbers, he can spend the card. He will pay you with a fake paypal email that says you have been paid but if you check in paypal, no money will be found there.

OP3 years agoThank you all for responding and helping me out, I now have blocked him and got rid of everything communication wise, never bought the cards to begin with, I now understand why they would ask for your email. To send u that fake email and make u send it to them then they have the codes. Once again thanks guys
