eBay fees just drained my profit
Hi, I recently made my first sale on eBay for $180, but my payout was only $114. It looks like $66 was deducted in fees. Could someone please explain how these charges are calculated and if there’s a way to reduce them?

Does $180 include shipping costs? EBAY always "deducts shipping money and holds it for you" so there will be funds available when you print shipping label.
Did you promote this item, if yes, you will be charged additional fee when your item sells.

·8 months agoThere are different circumstances that add more fees, but for the most part you are charged a final value fee based on the total amount (selling price, shipping, handling charge, taxes). You are also charged a $0.40 cent fee on transactions over $10. (And if you promoted your listing, you're charged those promotion fees as well.)
The ebay page Understanding Seller Fees gives a few examples like this:
Marco is new to eBay. He has a set of golf clubs in great condition, and hopes he can make some money by selling them. Marco lists the golf clubs at a fixed price of $150. It doesn’t cost him anything to list; if the golf clubs don’t sell, he won’t pay any fees.
The buyer pays $210.50, which includes a $50 shipping charge and a $10.50 sales tax. Final value fees, calculated at 13.6% of the $210.50 payment, plus a $0.40 per order fee, are $29.03. eBay deposits the remaining payout of $170.97 to Marco’s checking account. After spending $50 on shipping, Marco nets $120.97.
Edited to add: I didn't realize you are in Cameroon. The info I gave above is for ebay.com, so there might be different policies if you're using a different platform.

Did you sell your item on eBay.com, the USA site?

No wonder they put so much effort in trying to keep people from doing business offsite.

Pro Tip: Personal responsibility will help grow your business more than blaming ebay for all your troubles.

·8 months agoeBay has many different fees. Your seller hub will tell you exactly what fees you incurred. We do not have access to that level of detail in another seller's transactions.
If you want us to look at the transaction and estimate what they would be, you would need to give us the item number.
You mentioned a payout - a payout is net amount remaining after eBay deducts all fees and charges on your account, not just the ones for the transaction. SO if you incurred any fees that are not tied to the transaction, they would be deducted from your payout.
