@kul5508 at least you have not sold anything already. Puts you one step ahead of many would be sellers that come thru here, after the fact, trying to figure out how to verify their banking account to receive payments.
I hear you - do it on the safest network you know - and not on your phone. For all their faults, I expect Ebay can vault the ID image as securely as the Govt agencies that issue the IDs.
As funfactorychannel opined. Your ID is probably already out there, millions are.
I get notice from time to time from my antivirus that my ID etc. has been compromised and is out on the dark web. Of course they want money to fix the issue.
In years since I got that first warning no issues have come up as far as my identity being used for nefarious reasons, to my knowledge. Maybe because I don't meet the threshold as far as being well off enough to scam.
Unless you are very well off then myself I wouldn't concern myself too much about it. If you are then maybe pay to monitor the dark web and credit scores.
I'd worry more about my dentist, doctor or a host of others not securing my information well than a huge corporation such as eBay...........................

Oh, heck, yes. Our dentist gets a check from me, not my credit card. It's personalized with his own name right there on the check, and personally autographed by me at the bottom. 😉

Oh, so now your dentist has your checking account number and a sample of your signature. Are you not at all concerned about his nightwork as a black hat hacker?

...as does every single person who ever received a check from me, for anything, going back to my very first check from my very first account.

Same again. (Realistically, who even cares what a signature looks like anymore? I remember one exchange my Dad had with a difficult store clerk who complained that she couldn't read his signature on his check. He replied, "It's my signature. You're not supposed to be able to read it." 😄)

Nope, although I see no compelling need to have my credit card info passing through their less-than-impenetrable little office network. I'm more concerned about his daywork and whether he glues the crown onto my root canal properly.
Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace don't require any personal information. Of course, you'll meet buyers in person and expect cash. Hopefully, you live in an area where there's a market for what you want to sell.
EBAY requires all Sellers to provide checking account# and social security#. When you item sells, EBAY deposits money directly into your checking account. If do not provide this information, you will not get paid when your item sells.
Whether you're "comfortable" or not, eBay is following legal requirements, just as other online commerce venues are also required.
Give eBay what they're asking for, if you want to sell here and get paid.
All of us current sellers here have done that, and the sky has not fallen. Those who don't give the information to eBay because they're "uncomfortable with it", go to other sites and generally find the same legal requirements... Get with the program if you want to sell here and actually get paid for it.
If you don't onboard to Managed Payments and you do have earnings from a sale, those will eventually go to your state's Unclaimed Property Dept. That takes about 6 months, though, and you'll have to upload your ID there to claim them.

·8 months agoYou can list and sell with no more information than you have given to post this question.
Of course, you can't get paid for your sales because eBay doesn't have enough information to forward your earnings.
But if you just wanted a fun hobby, nothing else is required.
