Competitive pricing/ low net margins
I don't mean to be complaining, but I feel like when I try to price competitive, and after dealing with offers, my net margins are low if not nonexistent. Any thoughts or advice on remedy. I even sell stuff I had at home or got for zero and still have this problem.
How does it work to wait out a sale? Silly idea? Im new to this and haven't got this figured out yet.

·8 months agoIf you are selling items you already own, it is tough to admit that many things are not worth listing online.
The more items you have that are not worth listing, the worse the price competition seems, and the greater the temptation to try to push sales by promoting.
Periodic yard sales, or donations to charity if you itemize deductions is preferable to Ebay for these items.

·8 months agoCheck prices before you even buy. Assume that you won't be able to get any better than the cheapest one listed on the website. Everyone should actually make that assumption, so many for some reason assume they can get more money than other people for identical items.
Your listed shipping prices appear to have been completely guessed. Stop using free shipping, free shipping is an expert tool best reserved for sellers of multi-quantity new items or sellers who are going to have a near fixed shipping expense. Someone like you should be using calculated shipping.
You also have some things that won't sell at any price listed with serious prices on them.
Comp things before you even buy them and then price check well before setting your price, looking at both listeds and solds.

·8 months agoYour Shipping is all over the place. You've got $8 listings with Free Shipping. Then you've got $19 items with $13 Shipping.
$8 Listings with Free Shipping is not going to make you any money.
Buyers are going to pass by $19 items that cost $13 to Ship.
After taxes ans shipping, a Buyer will end up paying close to $35 for that $19 item. No, those items are going to sit. No money to be made. $8 items people will BUY. You paying $8 to ship that $8 item. Again, no money to be made.
Those 2 huge Sketchbooks you sold for $15 with Free Shipping, I guarantee it cost $15 to ship both of those.
Study a little more on Shipping. Get rid of Free Shipping. Look at the comps at what you have for sale and how the other Sellers are doing their Shipping. Look at SOLDS, not current listings. If it sold at Free Shipping. look at the price it sold for. If it had Shipping Charges, what price did the item Sell for? It'll take time, but you'll eventually get it down.

·8 months agoIf you have 'too low' to 'non-existent' margins then you have 1 of 2 problems, and this problem will NOT go away.
1.) Bought too high
2.) Selling too low
Only you can figure it if it's worth your time to list, pack etc.
There is NO magical system to fix the 2 issues above.

·8 months agoIf you think you are priced competitively, dont entertain offers. No point in selling if you cant make money unless you just want to liquidate. Other than that, look at what you are selling, does it have a market?
Im not looking at any of your listings, but make sure you create value added with good pix and descriptions. If you have one -off items, remember that you are only looking for that one buyer, not 20, so go fishing for that one buyer
