You refer to the item not getting "any bids", so I'm assuming it was an auction listing.
You don't have to end an auction manually when it doesn't sell. It ends automatically after the number of days for which you listed it.

Not all items and categories are appropriate for auctions because bidding wars have become a thing of the past.
