Seller Nonsense - It Gets Old!
I expressed an interest in a vehicle for sale on eBay. Let's just say it has been for sale for several months now and has been through two price reductions. This is a premium performance vehicle and those are hard to sell. The number of buyers is limited. The seller answered my reply and called me.
Anyway, I started another conversation to see where we could end up pricewise. I am told to make an offer. I reminded them that the vehicle isn't getting any newer and prices of this type of vehicle are in decline. Again, I'm told to make an offer and they'll take it to "the big guy". I asked if they guy was overweight or something, referring to him as "the big guy".
I am then told that they're waiting for a guy to send over a check from a credit union anyway. So, why bother calling me if you have a buyer in hand? As it turns out, no check materialized and the vehicle is still for sale.
I never played those games with people. You either want it or you don't . I never pretended to have other buyers and if it was a slow mover, I waited and was transparent about how long we had it for sale. The type of practices I experience only reinforce what most people believe about dealers.
If you have to "sell" that way, close your business.

OP3 years agoI made plenty of lowball offers at the dealer auction, buying from dealers who didn't have two nickels to rub together and the finance floorplan was due on their gem. I never had any debt, always cash. I owned everything.
So, when opportunity knocked, I offered half the wholesale price and more than a few times I ended up with the car. Made a fortune flipping them.
So, I know how it works.

Sounds like wording before a lowball offer.
Some buyers will only buy if they think they're getting a super deal.
Some sellers will only sell if they're getting a good price.
Sometimes it's never the tween shall meet.
Personally I wouldn't offer anything until I checked the car out for myself.

It's understandable that you are unhappy with this seller's stance, but it is what it is.

OP3 years agoYes, you have a point. When people used to complain about how I ran my business, I used to tell them to come and bring a cashier's check and buy me out, run it how they "feel" it should be run.
I invited competition, never had any.
