Looking for a selling assistant
My dad was a collector of muscle cars, and recently passed away. In going through his things, we found a cache of NOS collector car parts. I am looking for someone who would be interested in selling these for me in the metro Detroit area.

·10 months agoYou're better off searching local social groups for a reseller you can unload everything in bulk. You may find someone willing to sell consignment, but it'll be tough.
All the liability falls to the seller including returns and claims (which can come 6 mo later by way of payment dispute), tax reporting, shipping mishaps, and more. The seller is the one putting in a lot of work photographing, researching, listing, shipping, paying to list, fronting the cost of shipping supplies, etc.
A lot of sellers won't do consignment for these reasons and others. There are also problems when the owner of the inventory hopes to keep a large piece of the pie when the seller is putting in all the time and risk.
Like I said - you may get lucky and find someone (and if you do, make sure there's a signed contract that covers everything), but you'll have an easier time selling off the lot to a reseller.

OP10 months agoThank you for your reply. That all makes sense. As far as social groups for a reseller do you mean like fb marketplace? This is all really new to me and I'm just trying to figure out the best way to handle this as I'm the executor of his estate. I appreciate your guidance.

·10 months agoAny social site with local groups, not necessarily a marketplace though those could work, too. You might also see if there are auction houses in the area.
Based on the product and the region I'm sure you'll find a reseller. I can't recommend any place specific as I'm not too familiar with Detroit so this advice is pretty generic. Ask around locally.
