I bid on a $1 twelve foot boat and then was sent an invoice from One Dollar Boats in Nevada for $499.  Emailed I was not going to pick up the boat so go ahead and sell to someone else.  ODB sent another invoice and said their $499 fee was disclosed in the original eBay ad - which it was.... way down in the bottom of the page - NOT prominently in the ad like with Boat Angel.  Then they sent a 2nd invoice letting me know they may contact eBay and place me on a no-bid list.  In my opinion this is a scam.  Stay away.  Also write to eBay customer service and let them know about this seller.

I had a similar experience. Almost no communication except to have the invoice paid. I have called them again and again for almost 2 months with no response. They essentially stole my money.

This is not a registered non-profit. Their "veterans charity" is simply a fraud. Although some people may indeed have successfully received a boat, that does not negate the illegality of the operation.

I get the feeling eBay will be unwilling (or uncaring) until more eyes are on the case. A report to law enforcement and stories sent to local news media would have a greater impact and are more likely to elicit a response from eBay.

Check the invoice that you received. The payment is made to Francine Siegel in Henderson NV. I was able to find her home phone number by Google. I am experiencing the same issue with this outfit which is inept at best and unscrupulous at worst.

I put in a couple fake number but it had to match that area code I was told.If you can help I would appreciate it.They got me for $552.50

I bought 2 boats from them when they first started trading. I sent them a $5100 wire transfer and received both boats without any problems. I spoke with the owner of this company on the phone and he gave me a 400 dollar discount. A couple of years ago I decided to buy a boat from them again, but an elderly woman called me and asked me to send the money not to the company's bank account, but somewhere else and refused to provide a 200 dollar discount for the boat. I thought it was suspicious and I did not pay. Now I decided to buy a boat from them again, but when I saw the reviews I could not believe my eyes. It looks like something went wrong with them.

I looked at one of their listings awhile back and looked like you were only paying for their service on Ebay.

You still had to pay the owner for the boat.

I bought a boat from   Boat Angel-  boat charity auctions.

    Sailboat ,no trailer

my first sailboat,  it was the real deal .

I picked it up at the families dock behind their house

    Off we went

8 hours with bananas and 6 waters .

make sure you have somewhere to put it

while you fix up your boat .

A big boat needs a harbor rental  spot with electricity

    planned .

For around $300 to the auction $300 won the  boat .

    @400 for  marina a  month spot .

I ended up giving it away to a boat mechanic , i kept the long Shaft 8 hp .engine

    Put it another boat .

But be able to have the money to fix up store and  try your dream of sailboat , weekender ,ect .

So I won a bid on a 43’ sailboat and this company wanted me to send a cashiers check for close to $11k to an elderly lady in Nevada at an apartment condo.  I thought that was kind of sketchy.  Then when I tried to call their number that they have plastered on the ad, the number said that their TextNow voicemail box was not setup.  I tried contacting them through eBay messaging, but their only response was vague and for me to only do the instructions in the “invoice” they sent me.

I at that point was 90% certain this was a scam, but I knew the city where the boat was and had some time to fly down to Houston and try to find it and see if it actually existed.  Well I flew down there and it took some searching but League City isn’t that big and I was able to identify landmarks to determine where the boat was docked at.  I found the boat and was even able to speak to the owners, a very nice elderly couple that thought they were donating their boat to a homeless veteran organization that isn’t even listed as a registered non profit.

So that is how they operate, they use various fake charities to get their inventory from people that just want out of a boat and thinking they are donating to a reputable charity.  They then have the money sent to someone that either thinks they are working as an agent or someone that is themselves an unwilling participant in this scheme.  I doubt the mastermind of all of this is an 83 year old retired lady in Henderson NV.

The people I met that actually owned the boat offered to give it to me, which I declined out of fairness.  I did purchase the boat from them for an amount they would have saved on their taxes which was more than fair.

I am amazed that EBay allows this to go on, there are many respectable and real charities that need help and then you have people like this

I just got scammed by one dollar boat on eBay. I did not look them up to see if they were scammers or not. I thought they were on eBay that it was legit because they had a good rating and a lot of boats for sale so I bought a boat and sent a money order to pick up my boat still not realizing that this was a scam Since then I have talked to eBay several times. Try to retrieve my money and still nothing yet one dollar boat is even blocked me on eBay. I send a message on every one of their sites that I can find. I’m trying to find people to help me take down one dollar boat And I believe eBay is involved in this because they are allowing them on their platforms to scam people, knowing that they have been warned about one dollar boats over and over and over by many people so I’m asking please somebody help take down one dollar boat

They don't seem to care. I've reported 100 listings in the last week because of the phone number in there and not one of them has been taken down or removed. Any one of us tries to send any information in a message It's automatically declined. I had a part number that was similar to a phone number In a listing I was doing and it was blocked.

There are.  If a person has the skills to restore them then they can have a nice boat.  It is like old junk cars, people buy them to restore.

OK, you have a point there I hadn't considered.  But don't most people who buy old junk cars usually look at them first to make sure the amount of restoration work needed is within their capabilities?

On the most part everything went OK there are a couple I did not buy and got a refund there was one I abandoned due to the Marina being totally unwilling to assist loading so lost mont there AND THIS LAST ONE I JUST PAID FOR NO REPLY FROM DONOR AND NO REPLY FROM ONE DOLLAR BOATS SO I GUESS THERE MAYBE HAVING A LAST GRAB AT THE CASH COW BEFORE FOLDING UP

    Use Visa or Mastercard.

Not only does this give you 30 days to pay (the card to avoid interest) but you have a second level of Buyer Protection.

First through eBay's Managed Payments program.

And then through your credit card's Chargeback policy.

They are legit if you understand what you are get into. The bidding starts at a dollar and that should tell you most of story.  I have bought several boats from them and although they are not the best at communicating and they want you to send a cashier's check someone's house which had me wonder about there legitimacy. The two boats I bought were not described at all other than needing attention. Upon purchase I have been pleasantly surprised as there was value in my purchase although not turn key ready it still made for a good buy. In closing I might add that all donated boats will need some work. However there are countless donated boats that are completely worthless and you should stay away from .

I've done a bunch of searching on the internet and realized these guys are definitely a scam. They're claiming to be a non-for-profit and getting the boats for free claiming it's being donated to the veterans. They have multiple cases against them. For some reason. eBay is allowing them to sell. I've reported them at least 50 times over the last 2 years. The fact they changed their name from last year suckered me into bidding on a boat which obviously I'm not able to pick up because I'm not sending money to a random address in person. Last year they wanted it sent to an address at a super 8 motel in Southern California. This year they got somebody in Arizona. They want the money order sent to. They won't respond to your eBay messages because they know those be read by eBay. So the fact that they never respond to any of your messages. I think eBay should view that as a red flag and help the customer.

If you cannot pay, and do not pay, you will have a Strike on your buying account which will time out in 12 months.
    Nothing else.

    Does Managed Payments accept Venmo?
EBay sellers can only be paid by Managed Payments.

Venmo is not under the managed payments. It doesn't let you pay on the website. It keeps giving you the option to contact seller. Whatever's going on eBay is allowing it. I've talked to him on the phone multiple times in a pretty much tell me that I'm just going to get an unpaid strike against me. It seems kind of bull**bleep** when it's all there in writing that it's a scam and they're asking for payments outside of eBay

    Ways to pay

In most categories, credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Venmo, Klarna, and PayPal are accepted. American Express is not accepted on eBay. You'll find the payment methods accepted by going to the Shipping and Payments section of the listing.

I did the same thing and explained to them I'm paying with a credit card because I can always get my money back if it is a scam! I'm definitely not paying them with a cashier's check or a money order,no chance of ever see that money again! They keep telling me, pay with Venmo. I've tried about a dozen times, never goes through. I've had enough, I'm trying boat angel or someone I can either use a credit card with,or I get the title and registration when I hand over the money! Good luck 🤞

That’s it.   They are broke.   Heading to court.   They may restructure but I doubt it.

I recently sent $700 to onedollar boats and am now thinking it’s a scam because I couldn’t pay via ebay

How are the allowed on eBay if it’s not legit?

    • Did you happen to check the seller's feedback? Although 96% is a good high school exam test score, on ebay, it's a low feedback rating.
    • Did you look at the item locations of the boats? They're all over the place.
    • The pictures in the listings look like Google images found online
    • The seller's listings claim "We are one of the largest boat sellers on eBay and have been selling on eBay for 4+ years." With just 633 feedbacks, I doubt that claim.
    • Many sales are for <$10 so I'm guessing that if the listings are genuine, the boats are junk.

I totally agree. I bought a boat from them. It wasn't even close to what they had pictures of. Asked for my money back like they advertised and they ended up blocking me and won't respond back. Please what ever you do no matter how nice of a boat you think you're bidding on do not bid on it. It will be what you thought you bought

Is this a seller who actually lists boats for sale on eBay?

    @cmbrehmer

If you did not receive the advertised boat - did you open a Claim through the Money Back Guarantee?
