Why would you suggest even a remote possibility that "eBay would look into it"?

You’ve been conned by a scammer. There is no truck.
Your money is long gone and unretrievable. eBay can’t help you with this since it never happened on eBay.

Incorrect ….MBG DOES NOT cover scams the OP has experienced an old scam found on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace. Asked to pay for a nonexistent truck with eBay Gift cards.

Fellow eBayers come here every day and answer their questions.
Some people even return and thank them.
What purpose should the board serve that it's not serving?

Which raises the question -- to what purpose do you believe this board was created, if not to ask and answer eBay questions, and provide commentary regarding eBay issues?

·2 years agoIf you keep doing the same thing for over 20 years and have the same issue, the current approach does not work.
Statistically, to alter the trajectory of a single buyer once in a while does not solve the problem. Use common sense. That's why I suggested we just tell people to do what they think is best.
I do not believe the scams fit the content of this board anyway. They should be removed as soon as they appear per the terms of use. Maybe I need to write another letter to eBay's CEO. Seems to work in every case.

·2 years agoI know that I have been reading the SAME OLD STORY on this board for over 20 years and every week we get the same questions over and over again.
My suggestion is to stop responding to these constructively as doing so has not solved the problem. I would suggest that we always reply as follows:
Please proceed as you see fit.

Every time we see a new post from someone who was scammed, they're different victims. And each time we explain and point out the scam and how it worked, it's one fewer person to whom it'll happen in the future.
We won't and can't save everyone but I consider that our advice is more helpful than telling someone to "proceed as they see fit."

Point 1: There is no truck.
Point 2: There is no "Tiffany Olsen."
Point 3: There was no insurance.
Point 4: The money from your gift cards has been stolen.
Point 5: You did not originally find this "truck" advertised on eBay, so it is not eBay's responsibility.
Point 6: You will never get your money back.
Point 7: If a deal sounds too good to be true, then it's probably not true.

·2 years agoscam losses must be in the billions on this. Facebook should be sued since they allowed the scam listings for decades.

·2 years agoThese transactions were not perpetrated on or thru eBay.
You found an ad on Craigslist, Facebook or somewhere else and they talked you into giving them gift cards. There is no recourse once you provide the gift cards. It is game over.
Again, eBay was not involved, you were just led to believe that.
Hope the rest of the year provides much better results for you.

However, the seller probably assured you that the sale would be covered by eBay, right?
Sorry to tell you that you've been scammed. eBay has no involvement with sales of anything on any other site except their own.

·2 years agoI'm sorry to tell you that you were scammed. Your money is gone. Classic elements, the car not actually listed on eBay, shockingly low cost, pay with eBay gift cards, someone told you a sob story, they scammed you a second time with the "insurance", they are going to try to scam you a 3rd time too, don't send them any more money. Ebay had nothing to do with this scam.

You didn't find the truck on ebay and didn't pay with an allowed payment form so why do you think ebay would cover your loss?

·2 years agoPretty sure this was the standard FB, CL etc motor vehicle scam. The mention of gift cards and of the seller requesting more money should have been the tipoff here. There was no eBay involvement at all except for the scammer (falsely) assuring the OP that the transaction would be covered by eBay.
But the OP has chosen not to return, so guess we will never know for sure, will we?
