Help to identify Kepis hat
My late father collected military hats and helmets during the 1960-70s. I'm having to downsize the collection and have what looks like a 1800s kepis hat. But I'm not sure if it's original or a good reproduction The hat is constructed of hardened fabric (a fiberboard feel?) with a leather molded top and leather visor. The decorative chain and buttons are not magnetic (real brass, not modern costume?). A leather headband, and a paper label from W. Stokes Kirk. The buttons would indicate civil war era Maryland 5th Regiment. So I'm not sure what exactly I've got. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
