Greetings, I got these out of a circa 1930 sewing machine drawer. I presume they are military but I can't find anything similar inonline search. Do you know what they were for and if they are US or not? About 9 inch long.
US Navy enlisted service stripes for the dressier uniforms. The color depends on the jumper or jacket. Each stripe is for four years of basically staying out of trouble (good conduct).
They look like military service stripes to indicate years of service. The backing color means that these were made to be sewn to the sleeves of a khaki jacket.

Nope. Soldiers didn't wear Service Hash Marks on their BDU's, Field Uniforms. Only on their Dress Greens, on the sleeve. And, they're only 2-3 inches long or so, usually gold or silver, not drab green. 9 inches would wrap around the whole arm.
I don't see anything "Military" about these cloth strips. Nothing at all. Test strips someone sewn together testing out the machine? Trying to get a pattern down. So on.....
I could be completely wrong, but my mom taught me to sew in the 1960's on a very old at the time sewing machine. It looks to me like something she made and stuck to the bottom of the drawer to keep the scissors, seam rippers and other sewing tools from sliding and banging around in the drawer when she opened the drawer while sewing.
Interesting thought but why the 45 degree ends when most sewing drawers are square? Both of the black stripes are sewn completely around as are the sides and ends of the outside. Lets see if I get any other answers. I do appreciate the reply!
Imagine reaching in to the drawer with your right hand. The angle makes sense. If the scissors are straight in at 90 degrees, then you have to twist your wrist to grab the scissors. Yes, I hope someone can identify them, who might actually know what they are for sure.

·10 months agoProbably Navy for the khaki NCO dress jacket. The stripes may be a dark navy blue rather than black.
