Do other sellers just have really loose definitions of what is considered "wearable jewelry"?
I've noticed an uptick recently in jewelry lots being marked as "all wearable", then receiving lots that have a lot of "junk".
I recently bought a large lot of jewelry from someone who said it was all good and wearable, but I ended up having to throw away 1/4 of the lot and sell 1/2 the lot as junk lots. Only a handful of pieces were in good condition, had matches to the earrings and were ACTUALLY wearable.
I thought it was just a rare phenomenon that happens with a handful of dishonest sellers. But it seems like the more often I purchase estate lots or mixed lots (Even after inspecting the photos carefully and reading the descriptions) that I'm often found digging through a lot of junk. My rant here especially has to do with receiving earrings that are either broken or do not have a match.
For me personally, if a necklace is excessively tarnished, missing beads, broken in any way I do not consider it wearable. If earrings do not have their match, or are broken I do not consider them wearable. (I usually end up just selling the single earrings in their own lots marked as such)
I think part of the problem is the AI generated descriptions for these lots. I recently started just writing my own descriptions (I used the AI generated descriptions a lot as a new seller) because I got frustrated trying to find lots to purchase and resell only to have the AI description say "The jewelry may have some signs of wear but all are good and wearable" or some **bleep** like that only to have the lot arrive as mostly junk.
I think if someone has the words "all wearable" in the item title or description, The jewelry should all be ready to be worn by any reasonable person. Small imperfections here and there are completely understandable, but they should definitely be outlined in the description. I know not everyone can afford to take great pictures, or has the knowledge of how to take great pictures (Heck, so many times I end up with blurry pictures and don't realize it until later on) But it frustrates me the lack of care and attention people put into their postings.
When I sell jewelry lots, I try really hard to be very clear about the condition of the items in the lots. Most of my junk lots contain pieces that I personally would not wear due to tarnish, missing rhinestones, loose string etc.
So it makes me wonder if I just have a very different definition of what "wearable jewelry" is. Any thoughts/experience with this?

·2 years agoI wonder if some of the listings you describe might be poor keyword choices by lazy sellers. I see it in the musical instrument categories where it looks like they are using titles from completed listings regardless if it applies to the listing or not.
