Shipping Labels
Hi I'm trying to describe a situation and maybe someone can read it and help me decide what I can do about it .
Okay ,here goes: this is regarding an eBay item that I have listed on eBay for sale, and a problem that I ended up having over my return address,
The one on this label wasn't the same one that Ive received orders that I've purchased from ebay, and it's been several years since I lived at that address.
Anyway, I didn't want to use the label that had the wrong return address on it , so I went into my eBay account settings and began checking my home information that eBay had on file, and seeing the other two where I have been living and receiving packages for several years , but also one was listed under the title “send packages from” and this was the address where I lived when I first opened my eBay account many years ago,
So.. anyway I did edit that address and I updated it to my current address, saved the changes and went back to the page that listed the sold bracelet, needing to try to get a new accurate shipping label, but could not find anywhere on that page where I could officially cancel the previous shipping label that I had already purchased using the funds that the buyer had paid , that was on hold…
so now I'm looking at the transactions : the buyer had put $14 up to purchase the bracelet and pay for shipping, the first transaction I see was a $2.65 fee , i guess this paid to be able to sell on the eBay platform, then the second fee was for promoting the item and that was $1.78 so this was also deducted from the $11.39 remaining balance , leaving a new balance of $9.57. So when I purchase the first shipping label at $5.52 the remaining balance was around 4 dollars ..I'm really disappointed by this time ,that I really didn't make very much off the bracelet ,but oh well you know …live and learn i guess,
Anyway, I needed to go ahead and send the bracelet , and needed a new shipping label that was accurate with my new address.. I tried searching everywhere I can think of on that page to try to cancel the old shipping label, and feeling pressed for time to get the package out in a timely manner , I went ahead and ordered a new shipping label that printed out with accurate details and then I was able to ship this item on time.. I later looked into the transaction history and I see that another charge for the $5.52 cent shipping label was deducted from the dwindled down 4.00 remaining balance leaving an unpaid balance of $1.47, which ebay politely charged my personal debit card.. i tried to figure out how to “undo” this transaction, but couldnt see the option to do this. I went ahead & used the new label since there was little time left to get the item sent out on time.
Ive tried to figure out how to get the $5.52 credited back to my account & finally called EBAY & a representative called me back. He was very polite , but spoke really low, i had a hard time understanding what he said, but i think he said that after so many days, the automated system would discover that the 1sat label was unused & the money would automatically be put back into my account.
Well, its now been over 2 weeks & ive seen nothing.
So far, this is only my 2nd sale on EBAY , i have several items, i mean several , that i hsad planned on listing, but i was taking it slow & trying to figure the best way to list, also to ship, should i offer free shipping, etc etc. , so i was waiting for these 1st 2 sales to complete, before listing more items.
I KNOW this is only a $5.00 issue, but $5.00 is $5.00 and im lucky it was just that .
As it is, i PAID $1.47 to sell a bracelet, and its just not sitting well with me.. 🙂
Surely there must be some simple way to recover this , any ideas?

·4 months agoI think the others have your shipping label thing covered; thankfully you learned this lesson with something small!
Generally speaking, anything under $25 will net you less than 50% of the profits; jewelry is actually a great item to sell since it's easy to store, light and small, and it has a pretty high turnover rate. That said, shipping is a killer; you really don't want to guess at your package details. I'd ship any jewelry using either calculated shipping (what I'd really recommend to anyone starting out), or flat rate at around $8 (that number is subject to change; if this were the 90s I'd say $5 or $6).
My first ever sale cost me so much money that my second sale went all to covering my mistake; it happens to the best of us, and what's important is that you don't let it get you down. Dust yourself off, price your items a little higher, try out calculated shipping (get yourself a decent shipping scale and measuring tape, maybe even two measuring tapes if you wanna go crazy; you'll thank me later), and if your first few sales net you only a few dollars, that's okay. Pricing and sourcing your inventory is learned with practice!

I think you are asking how to cancel a shipping label. Go to help & contact on the main ebay page (upper left, tiny grey letters.) Type in cancel shipping label. There is a lot of info on shipping labels and its many variations.

·4 months agoIf you voided the unused shipping label, it'll be 3 to 4 weeks for the refund to show up.
