Does the "E" symbol mean electro plated
Hi, This is a gold coloured belt buckle saying made in Spain. I have seen the "E" symbol before and thought it meant European silver plate, but does it mean Gold plate as well or have i got it completely wrong?

That looks like a makers mark to me. Usually when an item is electroplated it has the purity mark before such as 14k GE.
It wouldn't make sense to just stamp an " E" and not let the buyer know what metal was used to do the electroplating.

·1 year ago@silverstatetreasureboxes is correct. It's the makers mark. Here are a few other examples. If I have time later I'll try to look up who owns that makers mark if nobody else gets there first.

·1 year agoHi, thank you both for your replies. The other piece I have is a bracelet which has the E on every piece, but it also has a makers mark and is made in Italy.
