Hello everyone 👋 eBay/eCommerce Newby Here
Hello everyone, My name is Brian, and I’m excited to have found an eBay community that’s local! I just recently started using eBay (and a couple other e-commerce sites) to sell off things I don’t use much in order to supplement my (currently non-existent) income.. but I’ve been doing some research, and it seems there is actually a high potential to make this a very lucrative endeavor. I am going to try and make it to the in-person meetup, although Spring is a bit far from me… but I can’t wait to meet you all, whether in-person or online! P.S. If any of you guys have any feedback/insight/guidance for this rookie, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I appreciate any and all feedback that comes my way!

July In Person Meeting
I am excited to meet you! Our first in person meeting is approaching and I have some updates. Ebay is helping promote this meeting and sent me some swag to share. We will hand out goodie bags to all registered attendees. I have to be honest. I thought the swag bag would be a koozie and pencil. No sir, the bag itself is a keeper. You Get an eBay sharpie type marker. Plus. What are the most important tools when shipping a package? A tape measure, to measure your package. Yep, thats in there. But Roger, I still need to weigh my package. eBay hooked you up. Everyone will receive a small digital scale. Wait there's more. We will have non alcoholic beverages and snacks provides by our hostess. Ginger of Creativity at Play in Old Town Spring. Our sponsor, Titan Trading Company is donating a few gift cards for door prizes. eBay donated a small light box to take your photos. So please, please RSVP to the meeting. Should I use Auction or Buy It Now?
After selling on eBay for many years, I've found that both have their place. Neither is always right or wrong. 🛎️ Auctions – Pros ✅ Can create excitement and bidding wars for rare or highly desirable items ✅ Good for collectibles when you're unsure of the value ✅ Fast sale timeline since the listing has a set end date ✅ Can attract bargain hunters and watchers 🛎️ Auctions – Cons ❌ You risk selling an item for less than expected if there aren't enough bidders ❌ Many buyers wait until the last few seconds to bid, which can be stressful ❌ Less predictable final selling price ❌ Not ideal for common items with lots of competition 💲 Buy It Now – Pros ✅ You control the price ✅ Buyers can purchase immediately without waiting for an auction to end ✅ Easier to run sales, send offers, and adjust pricing over time ✅ Works very well for most everyday items 💲 Buy It Now – Cons ❌ Items may sit longer if priced too high ❌ No chance of a bidding frenzy pushing the price above expectations ❌ Requires more research to determine the right price My Personal Opinion For most items, I prefer Buy It Now with Best Offer. It gives me control over pricing while still allowing buyers to negotiate. I tend to use Auctions for unusual collectibles, hard-to-price items, or when I simply want inventory moved quickly and am willing to let the market decide the value. At the end of the day, the best format often depends on the item itself. A rare vintage collectible and a common pair of jeans usually require different selling strategies. What has worked best for you? Do you prefer Auctions or Buy It Now? I'd love to hear other sellers' experiences and answer any questions.
