Switcheroo NAD return request
Well, I knew it'd happen at some point since if we sell long enough, we'll encounter a scammer. I post frequently, but rarely with my selling ID, but this is a time that calls for a post with this ID.
TBH, I'd like to believe that the buyer made an honest mistake and confused her purchase from me with that from another seller. But I'm having a hard time convincing myself.
Item was delivered yesterday and today awoke to a return request for NAD, alleging conditional issues and non-authenticity. Item was professionally authenticated (with COA included and sent to buyer) and the condition as shown in her photos is not the condition of the item I sent. dy a
I've already accepted the return and sent a shipping label but I'm interested in input on my chances of winning an appeal and reporting the buyer. (I realize I can't do anything until after I receive the item back.)
Additionally, as shown in my side-by-side comparisons, although close, the pattern placement indicates that it's not the same item.

Yeah, it's lousy! You do the right thing by responding promptly to the return and get punished for it.
I too was sure I'd be getting back a fake so for that, I'm pleasantly surprised. I'm just so disappointed that she felt the need to damage the item in order to get a return.
(And I know that ebay encourages sellers to have a return policy but in all my years, I can count on one hand the number of buyers who've lied and claimed NAD. I've had others who were honest and requested returns for remorse reasons and I've never turned them down.)
Oh, well. I know I did the right thing and only hope (now) that she doesn't neg me. (Can the buyer neg the seller when the return was accepted and refunded?)

·3 years agoSorry it ended this way, but you might give it some thought about offering a return policy. Since you say you never turn down a request for a remorse return anyway, that is all your return policy is officially doing. That way you get the limited protected given to a TRS in situations like this. Hopefully, you won't need it, but it's good to know it's there. I believe you are protected on the feedback, unless that is also tied to offering a return policy.

OP3 years agoSo I should have taken the ding to my account by forcing the buyer to involve ebay?

·3 years agoI do not think it would have mattered, it would have been the same answer except that you would have a Defect on you account that may lead to higher fees and I think eBay would have kept their Fees.
Sometimes when there is fraud involved, filing a Police Report could lead to eBay overturning their decision, removing the Defect, refunding you and not charging you their Fees.

·3 years agoThat is correct; you cannot appeal something that you, the seller, decided to do.
Regarding condition, if it got returned in 'less than' condition, you offer 'returns' and are Top Rated, you could have deducted 'UP TO' 50%.
ps. you would NOT have won the appeal anyway, as there is NO PROOF of what condition it was in when it was sent (even Authentication would not have 'noticed' that condition since it was listed as 'used').

OP3 years agoYup, this certainly was a lesson learned.
One should gamble on risking the ding by accepting the return, receiving the item and when not in the same original condition (or not the same item) not issuing the refund, thereby allowing the buyer to escalate.
Then I could have appealed and hoped that Ebay would rule in my favor on the appeal.
IMO, that's quite backwards, but as we know, Ebay does operate in a backwards fashion!
Thanks all for the advice. It is appreciated.
BTW, I also do appreciate all the dissenting opinions and time you spent in trying to figure out whether or not the buyer switched my item with a fake. Although I was wrong in that respect, I think she manipulated it in such a way that she did cause the damage that now exists. The pulling and stretching and possible actual cutting of the trim certainly changed the condition from what it was when she received it!

OP3 years agoI have another update and TBH, this makes NO SENSE!!
I reached out to ebay on Facebook and their reply is disappointing. (Will copy below but want to comment first.)
I included side by side pictures as shown in my previous post showing that the returned condition is not the same as was sent.
Here's my disappointment:
This is the reply I received from the person who responded to my FB message:
"Thanks so much for reaching out to us on this one, XXXXX, I appreciate it. I pulled up that return and saw that you had issued a voluntary refund. When a seller issues a refund like that, our system reads that as "everything is resolved" and closes out the return. These aren't situations where we'd be able to appeal, since we can only appeal a decision that eBay has made. If you're running into issues with future returns, reach out to us before issuing the refund so we can go over our options; we'd be happy to look into those for you. Keep trying to work this out with your buyer to see if they'd be willing to send that COA back. I saw that you had reported them, so our trust and safety team will look that over and take the appropriate action. Hope you're having a good day."

Well, I am quite without words at this 'one-two' combo.
I'd have sworn that you'd be getting back a bootleg and I'd have sworn that you'd have been able to appeal the refund.
I stand corrected on both counts, dang it. Man, we live and we learn, no?
For what it's worth, I'd have issued the refund, too, without a second thought (dang metrics) and have been just as schooled as you were. And moving forward, I'd still not want eBay involved (dang metrics), either. Hang in there... 😣

OP3 years agoHi everyone and Happy New Year!
I'm back with an update. I have good news and I have bad news. (I'm not sure whether this is something that they can help me with on Facebook.)
Good news: I did get my own item back. (It wasn't switched.)
Bad news: It's certainly not in the condition I'd sent it and although I asked for the COA to be returned, the buyer didn't send it. (Of course I can print another but why keep it? Why would she want it?!)

·3 years agoI would not in the future sell these expensive designer bags on here without eBay’s authenticity program. You would have had less trouble and probably could have upped the price for this bag using it and had a bit more protection from ebay. The bags in this price range are high scam items with people prowling this website to scam, and re sell.
thebargainprincess
OP3 years agoThe brands I sell are not part of Ebay's authenticity guaranteed program so even if I'd wanted to use the program, I cannot do so. The program isn't optional for items that would be part of the program. Sellers can't opt in or out.

·3 years agoRegarding the D-ring, I see that the flap folded inside is not in the same position, you can see the left bag seam in your pic is pushed to the right while the buyer pic shows it as more straight, this shifts the d-ring to the left relative to the little dashes.
I have no experience with this type of switcheroo return, I would think you would need better evidence than those pics to win an appeal.
More likely your buyer just decided they didn't really like it and since you have a No Returns policy they went with the NAD option.
Until you have the purse in hand speculating about appeals is jumping the gun, as @spark-chaser1 says it's really very hard to compare pics.

·2 years agoThese are your options -
Accept the return.
Send a label and once you receive it, refund in full.
eBay will refund the fees.
OR refund the buyer now and eBay will refund the fees.
You will not get the item back but dont have to pay shipping back to you.
OR do nothing, eBay will refund the buyer and allow them to keep the item.
You will most likely get a negative FB. eBay will keep all fees AND give you a seller defect.
