Pretty much ready ... was good for the most part ... if you count complaining about how eBay messed up my sales then not so good. Finished the room make over for the grand-kids a week ahead of schedule and that included the child safety gate at the top of the steps ... made from wood and door latch laying around here, only bought hinges ... had plenty of paint from the room reno for it too, it needs one more coat. My wife did a nice job with simple decorations ...

After Christmas we will start on the next room upstairs ...

Thank you @katzrul15 ... they all come here after lunch on Christmas Day ... 2 Sons, their wives, 3 granddaughters and a yellow Lab ... we know the two oldest girls will want to do a Sleepover!!! They've seen the room already and one slept over one night this week ... what a blast!!!

@katzrul15 What a sweet rock story! I am oddly touched by it. When my daughter was little, our cat Tigger died. We buried him in the front flower bed and I told her we would collect rocks to put there for him. I remember wherever we were, she would pick up a rock and say "Rock for Tigger". We still do it even though he has been gone for 15 years. It is a beautiful rock garden.

Such sweet stories in fact I have my own rock story I'll get to in a minute.

My maternal grandparents I adored, loved them soooo much. Every year I put out for display the very first Christmas card my mom gave them with my little feet ðŸ‘£ on it and I have the envelope!

Now upon my looking for this card ( just in one of two places) I ran across a sealed envelope that Grampa P found a rock from Ruby falls in 1967. Never been opened and I also have an envelope with a dime found in 1967 in Tennessee as well from him.

I may send that to my brother who was born in 67.

@katzrul15 So the last line of my poem has to do with younger my brother. We used to go to my Grandma's house in Indiana for Christmas (either before or afterwards). That is the gift exchange I mentioned because it is a large group. The grandkids were the only ones to get actual presents just for them. We would open gifts, youngest to oldest. I was the oldest grandchild, so I watched all the younger ones open their gifts. One Christmas, in the 1970s, my brother got a Sit and Spin. It was all the rage, but he didn't think so. He opened it up, frowned, and said rudely, JUST WHAT I DIDN'T WANT! As the oldest, I promptly put it in the middle of the room, sat on it and took a spin. I was too big, but I did it anyway. Then I put all the little ones on for a turn. By the end of it, my brother was begging to do it--after all, it was his! By the end of the day, he loved it. We have never let him forget that!

What a great story. I kinda remember the sit n spin!

I wanted that Perfection game with the pop-up pieces. My cousin Victor got it instead and taunted me the whole day.

I got a hula hoop. Was so very sad.

Gran took me aside and gave me a very old silver dollar (still have it). She explained there were 37 grandkids then....she only had a set amount she could spend -it was early 70's and money was tight. Gas prices had tripled, food was very pricey, etc.

She confided she took money from the Toy budget and added it to the food budget. I was about 9 or 10.

Remember seeing her wet eyes and feeling so sad I was disappointed in my hula hoop.

Made a point to bring it with me every time I came over those next few weeks. Also realized she did not receive a gift that year.

It started our tradition of trading rocks. I found a nice colored one and gave it to her. She would carry it in her apron pocket.

Over the years, when we found a pretty or unique rock, we'd scoop it up and save it for our gathering exchange. My mantle (until I moved recently) had many of Gran's rocks. I'd give anything to be able to still trade rocks with her.

P.s. my sister has no rocks as she thought it was so dumb (she is a half-sister from my Dad's 2nd marriage) and is older and a teenager when she first came to holiday gatherings. She helped me pack up my house recently and told me how lucky I was to have that tradition with Gran.

My son and I trade rocks. He sometimes brings me the neatest ones he finds while working, etc.

Christmas morning he will find one in his stocking from me...a neat one I found on a jobsite this year when visting a customer. ðŸ¦Œâ›„ï¸ðŸŽðŸª¨

Back in the 60s our family consisted of my parents and 4 kids, mom and dad never set up the Christmas tree until Christmas Eve ... we would go to the candlelight Christmas Eve service at our church and then home for snacks and the sack.

Once we kids were all asleep (or at least confined to our rooms LOL), mom and dad would set the tree up with lights, ornaments and lots of tinsel ... then the gifts went under the tree ... for us kids it was magical to wake up Christmas morning to everything all set up.

I didn't realize until I got older why our parents did that ... back in the 60s live trees were still in vogue but presented a fire hazard as they dried out (no matter how much you watered them). So we got to enjoy the tree for a little while after Christmas and then it was taken down.

@katzrul15 Yes, the smell of the real tree was great. We had a cat back then and one of his favorite places to sleep was back in the corner under the tree ... probably because us kids couldn't get at him LOL!

@policequilts It wasn't a good year for catnip here. I didn't have much at all, just enough for my boy. I usually dry it and give containers of it to all my family member because everyone has cats.

I haven't really done any Christmas celebrating since mom passed away almost 30 years ago.

This year, my elderly client's invited me for Christmas. ( They invited me over for Thanksgiving where his kids were there and we had fun )

When I was at their home to clean it, she told me to look at the mantle. They had a custom made Christmas stocking hanging there.

This year, I didn't have time to harvest catnip and make my cats their toys.

I can't believe this was from 2021--surprised it isn't closed!

Another Christmas and this one will be very different too. I decorated the tree without my daughter. I have gone shopping without her. She will be home from college, so it will still be the three of us celebrating together. But the whole family will not be getting together this year. Parents are in Florida, with Dad in a brace after rotator cuff surgery. Brothers are out of state. We decided on a gift card exchange, which is so impersonal. My SIL decided we should all include a personal poem or picture with the gift. I wrote a poem but I doubt anyone else will. I love writing poems and this one here by @mr_lincoln is something I totally would have written! My poem contains memories of holidays past with people's names, but I will xxx them out and post it. Some things need explanations though!

‘Twas the week before Christmas
And all through the site
Not a Buyer was bidding
Not even a Snipe

The Listings were live
Just waiting for Views
In hopes of some orders
Maybe by twos!

The children were nestled
All safe in their beds
While visions of LegoTM sets

Danced in their heads

And mom in her kerchief
And I in my cap,
Had just settled down
For a long winters nap

When out on the Boards

There arose such a clatter
I sprang from my bed
To see what was the matter

I couldn’t believe it,

The legends WERE true

The newest OP was

I stumbled, I stammered

Gee whiz! Pix of Me 30 years ago selling at an antique show. Looks like I was having a great time there then! I sent this card out as my Happy New Year greetings for 1994. I loved that comfortable denim dress & am still wearing my little round signature eyeglasses! Happy New Year pix from me to you 1994ðŸŽ‰ðŸŽŠðŸŽ‚

My sincere thanks for posting my Christmas parody ... I might have to work on some other holiday song parodies LOL!

We've been real busy the last few months. One project in our "spare time" (if there is such a thing?!?) was to renovate one of our bedrooms that had been converted to a homeschool room (years ago) with a 3 position Formica L shaped desk area for our sons. Once they were finished with their schooling I used it as my home office. With the advent of grandkids it was time to clean it on and turn it back in to a bedroom.

Now, brace yourselves, the first 2 pics I took in the middle of emptying the room ... then a few of just the desk top and finally some of it just about finished, just need to get a bunky board and mattress for my wife's old tube frame bed ... and other then some wall decorations we'll be ready for the kids LOL!

FINALLY!!!!

We started this project in October putting in a few hours here and there when our schedules permitted. Half of what we had in that room got pitched because we no longer used the stuff. Some of it was boxed and stored. Once the L shaped desk unit was out and the shelves down from the wall there was a fair amount of work repairing the walls and prepping them for paint.

Anyway, our goal was to have it down by Christmas and it looks like we will do that no problem ... we should get the mattress this weekend. This room is on the 2nd floor so the other part of the project is a gate for the top of the steps - safety for the toddlers at night. I start that this weekend ... cut to fit & paint to match LOL!
