Yep:( as a small boy every night I would pray to God to bless the people in my life and name them off one by one. Now I do the same for the people that were in my life, and that list is quite a bit longer, and I've only just turned 70.
I'm busy also moving piles of lumber and tools around and around in circles trying to keep things tidy and dry. I think I may be excessive compulsive.

Waylon almost forgot about helping me mulch the client's garden and quick got home from fishing.
Picked him up and brought him to another home to show some other work he can do for money.
We managed to get half the gardens mulched.
Really getting too humid and rolling the wheelbarrow up and down the terrain.
Got home and went to the divorce house to mow. Was able to get half the lawn done and then a storm blew in.

·1 month agoIt's been a couple of hot and muggy days with on and off sprinkles.
Today, I will meet up with the teen to work on mulching a client's garden and then introduce him to another client to help with the "hill" gardens. ( Just cleaning through the rows of hostas ) I can't handle the hills anymore. It causes a lot of back spasms trying to hold in place while weeding.
My 90 year old couple can't wait to do some more updating in the gardens.

I have an appointment for Fluff tomorrow morning at 7am to get spayed. Pickup is at 4:30pm. I am going to put her in my office this evening and keep her there overnight so I can make sure to have her available to dunk into the carrier for transport to the clinic. Never know, she could be shacking up with Billy-Bob somewhere if I waited until the morning to try to wrangle her. She has never previously been in the house. I will keep her in another night or two after the surgery if needed.
Billy-Bob may be next on the list if he keeps hanging around….

From last weekend at one of the boyz house. A 30 lb. sack of ditch bugs takes about 45 minutes of washing/salting to be clean for the pot and ready to cook. These are a "select" grade batch.

·1 month agoOh man. Crawfish are one of the things I miss about my time on the gulf coast. Snap 'em, suck on the head while peeling the tail...repeat until it's time for a swig off of my beer or cocktail.
The only time I ever experienced gout was after one of our monthly fish fry/BBQ's. I ate so many I woke up the next day and my eyes were swollen shut, my face all puffed up. LOL.
I see them in the streams here but there's not enough of them to bother with setting up traps and they are small compared...........................

Two of the sons and I took down all 30 lbs. in two sittings about 90 minutes apart. Actually there was about 2 scoops left when I hit the road to come home. I like that eat and run feature.
Those boyz can sure cook them. This Saturday the oldest is doing a 90 lb. boil for his company. Those folks like them about as hot as you can make them and they and their esposa's show 90 lbs. no mercy. I plan to stop in for a taste Saturday afternoon after visiting a HS friend in Aurora. That is a 2 hour jaunt westward.

I met for breakfast this morning with a work friend from Convex/HP I had not seen in 30 years. He is 77 years old and was sporting a hat that read, "Not Dead Yet".

Yea I'm one of the last alive from days gone by. I don't know why. I'm just lucky as far as that goes I guess.
Been shot at, in bad car wrecks, cancer, snakebit, attacked by man and beast and still manage to not die. I'll probably trip over my dog or something and break my neck...LOL.

·1 month agoDefinitely want an update on the Fluff project. We have trapped 2 of the 3 kittens across the street and had thier mating days cut short. One was a male and the other was a female that was pregnant with 4 kittens and only 9 months old. One more to go that we hope to catch for surgery on Friday.
The last of my 3 foster kittens will be accepted at the Humane Society for adoption tomorrow morning. The other two that went last week have already been adopted. No more foster kittens for me. The resident cats here have issued a proclamation that they will not tolerate any more kittens attacking them while they are sleeping, eating, or using the litter box. Majority rules here and they are definitely the majority.

·1 month ago@kritterkats , we have my office ready for Fluff but she has not been seen since eating supper. We feed in the morning and at ~5pm. I have a litter box and bed ready, she better get in quick because no food after 10pm. Will check for her again in awhile. My wife can pick her up and cradle her, lol. She is in charge of the capture.

Today when I was heading out a hen had 9-10 (maybe more) little chicks in the front yard.
eta not sure if this was the hen that was in the back yard, or if there are 2 sets of chicks.

·1 month agoLittle activity on the trail cam overnight, but once before midnight I went out to get the mouse traps and heard what I believe to be a bobcat .
Just now 3 chips on the deck collecting seeds. At the moment they can be individually identified by the length of their tails.
A few minutes back I was out on the deck to scatter some seeds and heard momma turkey in the backyard.
She was calling the little ones to hurry into hiding. Caught a glimpse of the little ones, but no count as the tucked into flower/weed bed in the back.
Momma head just visible left of center as she waited me out. Called, but she was having none of that.
I got a camera shot through the binocular lens.
I watched out the window for a while and she eventually got the family into the ferns by the treeline, but not up for a snack under the bird feeder.
Have not mowed out there. Best count I could get as mom herded them to safety was about 6.

* Owner was surprised that I was able to clean up the utility room. The stuff stuck to the floor was from a split can of varnish with dirt and lint.
* Received payments. YEAH
* They started showing the house and there is a lot of people with appointments to see the place. They like the location and 22 acres for cattle or horses.
I think there may be a bidding war on this house and it will be sold in a short amount of time.
I have more than half of the gardens at my client's home done. I was hoping to get the rest of it weeded.
Wednesday, a load of mulch will be in and a young teen will help me with moving it up and down the hilly gardens.

Today furnace woke me up noontime.
Furnace will not keep me awake or annoy me for a bit. Flipped the emergency/service switch to the off position.
Dual purpose in setting that switch to off. Our power went out at 1:59 PM. Rainy and windy today and had thoughts of the power trying to kick back on. Don't need a power surge to take out the furnace.
Initial "AI" estimate for power was 5:30. That was revised to 10:00PM Both ships have sailed, and I am sitting here putting my Jackery Explorer 1000 battery pack to use for the 1st time. 1st time for actual use. I did try it after initial charging to be familiar with using it.

For the smaller size fridge/freezer is more than I paid for my big one.
I am hoping that it will last until I am gone. It's 40 years old and has gone through power shut downs.

What little I have ........... frozen went to the cellar freezer, and the non-freeze stuff went in a couple of small coolers with some bottles of ice until I knew the fridge would again do the job.
May be sorry for the decision. Current one runs a lot but is not very noisy. New one is a Maytag but will not know how noisy it will be until it is put into service.

·2 months agoOn the way to pick up the tarps off the landlords porch the landlord and the cousin were chatting in the driveway. I looked in the cousins trailer and it had cattle panels in it so I asked him wanted three more. See I spent half the day (it seems) straightening and finding a place to store the awkward things and now someone says that their lady's goats keep getting out and it's her birthday so I say it was meant to be. Then I ask him how the hay business is going and he says blessed, just sold 4,000 bales and only has 40 bales left but he that was very tired and every muscle hurt (which made me feel good by my helping his birthday goat fence project a little easier.) But then I got read the riot act when She found out I've been giving stuff away again. It was worth it.

Gray was too early this morning. Couple of pics, and gone.
2-3 nights back I saw a raccoon out on the ground when I was taking in the mouse traps.
Told it to "GET OUT OF HERE" as it ran off.
Learned something new. Raccoons will eat egg shells. I had put 2 out on the stump for target practice.
Both gone.

·2 months agoWell, I think I am done with prepping the divorce house.
Getting things sorted and moved to the farm or ? ? took over 19 days ( March - June ) and 474 hours.
Getting the house prepped for the realtors took 6 days and 45 hours.
Yep . . well over 500 hours to get this house ready for sale.
Still mowing the lawn until it is sold.
I had one room left when the photographer showed up yesterday to get all the pictures taken.
He didn't need the utility room ( thank goodness. It took 2 .5 hours. There was some type of "crap" under the tub. Had to use a putty knife, screwdriver and razor blades to get through this stuff. )
Now, I can get to my gardening for clients. I had another call from a former client for their gardens.
I really going to hate working at the farm to clear out the barn with all the stuff from the divorce house.
That is on the back burner until I finish all the gardening.

·2 months agoAlmost everything is out of the divorce house except 5 pieces of furniture to be moved by the movers.
I just started with the shop vac to get all the big stuff and mouse turds up. Covered the porch, living room, dining room and all the kitchen cabinets.
Then got the porch windows all cleaned on the inside. The entry door is all cleaned up ( front and back )
Earlier today, I spent some hours on the next client's gardens.
It's really dry here. No rain for quite a while.
Getting ready to slow down. Tomorrow - 3 cleanings.

I had an old Sears vac. Still have the metal canister. Makes a great waste can on rollers. 😄

Have not seen much of the hen turkeys.
Chicks were around in mid-June last year.
Have been bringing the bird feeder in at night. Should have been doing that
this time of year, but left it out so the birds would have seeds in the AM while I
am on a crazy sleep schedule.
Trying to get it out early AM when I make a necessary trip.
Feeder in will (should) reduce the nighttime wildlife activity, but last night the
flying squirrel was there as was a raccoon even with minimal there.
Minimal should be basically nothing as anything that dropped from the feeder before bringing it in should get collected by the mice.
Red and gray squirrels made some appearances to be photoed after the feeder got out in the AM.
Need to go pull the feeder now.

·2 months agoI got my 1st armadillo Thursday night. Took it about 6 miles away and let it go. I was surprised that I caught one as we had received quite a bit of rain and they usually don't come up in the yard until things dry out pretty well. I am running 3 traps, the Fat-Rays and 2 Havahart's. The catch came in the Fat Rays.
I am going to deploy a total of 5 traps by next week.
I have to get these critters moved out of here as I have waaaaay too much time into these plant beds this year to let them tear everything up.
One down..... he was a tad camera shy.

Saw a few Canada goose chicks Sunday when passing the golf course.
Chicks and two big geese laying down right in the middle of the 1st fairway. Had seen the adults
there, but 1st time seeing the chicks.
Also saw a small wren? on the deck being fed. At 1st I thought it was 2 adults, but one was a bit larger.

·2 months ago@buyselljack2016 The guy I bought the trap from said 4-5 miles, so I took it about 6 miles away. You do bring up a good point though. Spray paint is a solid idea and I will bring it up to a neighbor that is trapping them also.
Perhaps I might just ought to go ~10 miles. Wondering exactly how far, so I AI'd it.

·2 months agoJust telling on myself some really odd behavior that I just did over this Memorial Day weekend.
I taped all the war movies shown on TCM day and night and then watched them sometimes 4-5 a day. Boy! Did this make me happy! I know it’s nuts to do this but it was raining ☔️ and I totally enjoyed myself so much seeing those vintage WW2 movies 🍿 🎥 with lots of them about The Battle of the Bulge, walking miles in enemy territory, blowing up a bridge, and taking control of a farmhouse.
My uncle, my father’s bother, died in WW1 and until his dying day my father never got over it being just 15 when it happened in 1918 + he himself dying in 1985, 67 years later at the age of 81, my exact age now!

Got another 6 yards of screened, crushed concrete delivered today that our road fund pays for. Loaded about 54 buckets today and spread about 40 of them. This has been an experiment that is working.
Next step is putting a cost figure to a longer term plan that takes me out of 80% of the labor. I know where to get the labor.

Was able to fertilize every pot, basket and bed this past week, so ready to go into the summer. A lot of the Queen's newly planted elephant ears are coming up.
Every fern that I put up in the shed over the winter is doing awesome. I am quite surprised. A lot of them were dried out from 2 months without water.
They are all green, and will grow into monsters this year. Just add water/fertilizer. I think I have 19. Did not buy a single one this year.
Received some precip today, .10" . Nothing waters like God's beautiful rain.

As far as the knife in Finding Forrester I googled it and AI thinks it's a Blackjack Knives Model 1-7 or similar. That's an AI answer so I take it with a grain.
There are many knife makers near Enterprise Oregon so? It looks like I may have to see if I can find the movie in my stuff and see for myself.

·2 months agoI'm sure there probably are a few knife makers in that region but my meaning was that the writers cowboy background may have included some sort of knife traditions such as passing of a knife from grandfather to grandson, etc, but I think I may have been off base there.
In the movie Forrester wears his socks inside-out; a superstition, so maybe the writer included the gifting of a knife to Jamal as a way to symbolize the severing of ties with the Bronx.

·2 months agoKnives are to some a very personal thing and many are gifted to grandsons etc. When my father in law passed his pocket knives were prized by his grandsons. Luckily he had several so they all got one.

The road crew is here and both entrances to my place is blocked. As a matter of fact. My whole frontage is blocked by a couple of steam rollers, the road paver, trucks and such. I can't even use the yard to get out onto some part of the road.
I saw the neighbor using the hay field to get out and that was difficult because they had to move the skidster when they finally notice the car waiting.
I guess I will be leaving a little later when they start moving their equipment into work mode.

It looked like they put craters into the road. The beginning section in front of my house says "bump", but it drops down into sand about 8 inches.
Boy, listening to some of my neighbors trailers ( they have construction equipment ) go through this area is like a bad case of thunder.
This morning, 4 am, the oil tank came to start the process of the road. I guess there will be some paving done today.
Spent some time on Walmart and eBay sites looking at cameras and reading reviews. I wrote down a few of the models that connect to the computer to upload images and charge the unit. I still need a bit more time to find what I want. The last model I had is now over $400. Pffffffttttt NO!
Today, I have off so . . . .
I will go to a garden client and hopefully finish her gardening today.
Then I have one more big gardening client left. But t t t t t . . .
I will be going back to my 90 y.o. couple. They went to school to use that AI Chat thingy and showed me pictures of what the forest garden could look like. Guess who is going to be busy with more gardening for them. 🙄

Saw 3 turkeys wandered by. Have not seen them in my waking hours. Should be nesting on eggs now.
Lil red was by at 6:54 -6:56 causing 3 pics to snap. Again 8:52 - 9:13 snapping 3. None on the feeder itself. I had given it a good shot of cayenne pepper and water solution. Maybe it really does work.
Gray was not at all deterred and spent over an hour working the feeder. 7:01 - 8:10.
Would not have known that there were visitors. By the time I got up and checked things the feeder was straight again as if only the birds had stopped by.
No photos today as I have lost the mental capacity to send them to the flash drive to transfer to this computer. Had it to do the masked bandit, but lost since yesterday.
Should also have been video from last night, but lost that somewhere in the download. Oh well.
ETA mouse also tripped some pics.

·2 months agoWe managed .30" rain this afternoon and thankful to receive that. Might be considered the perfect amount. The heavier precip has been alluding my area. More perhaps moving thru early this coming AM.
Most of the reservoirs used for DFW drinking water are full. My regular fishing lake is a tad over full which bodes well going into summer.
We are having the last crawfish boil this coming Saturday as it is getting closer to the end of the season. The oldest is bringing out a 30 lb. sack of select. The ditchbugs get really big this time of year. We will have some of those cracker tools for the huge ones (like mini-lobsters). Keeps folks from experiencing bleeding fingers and torn up fingernails, lol. Been there, done that.
Starting getting the place setup for Saturday and the thunder pushed me inside to some eBay work where I was content to remain the rest of the day aside from a trip to the barber and good old wally world for a head of cabbage as the wife made us a wok of the deconstructed egg roll. I realized there was tad sugar in the sirachi I was using and switched to salsa.
I have been doing volunteer road work, pretty much by myself and by hand. Have our ~half mile of road in good shape. Someone left me a present inside my gate the other day and we sampled a tad. I imagine there are ingredients that turn to sugar in this stuff, but it sure was nice. I had about a double neat and it sure packs a wallop when you are not used to it. Wow, Lol.

·2 months agoToday, saw this little BlueJay that had obviously just left the nest and not flying yet. It was headed up the yard towards where Fluff hangs out. I had to shoo it in a different direction out away from the house while the parent birds were squawking overhead. I got it into the woods a ways to hopefully survive until it gets airborne.
Addendum: Fluff did catch and eat a male Cardinal in my boat. Red feathers all over the floor.
Was replacing some pansies with other flowering plants and found a wren's nest. They have nests all over the place including on top of one of the security cameras.

·2 months agoRe baskets: we buy two every year to take to the cemetery. One to one cemetery and one to the other. A few years ago when we went to pick up the basket from the other cemetery (they call it Union Cemetery) the basket was gone.
As soon as we got home Herself was on the phone to the manager (or whatever you call a guy in charge of a cemetery) and balled him out because she believed that the ground keeping crew picked it up. He was apologetic and we came to find out that he knew Mom and in fact had one of her painting so that helped calm the storm.
Next year though another one disappeared so we reckoned this was no coincidence and that someone was stealing them.
This year we were going to use a tracking device but it required downloading an "app" and Herself's phone is already overloaded so we decided we were just going to take our chances.
At the cemetery I suggested that we take the hanger off the basket and when we went to pick it up it was there.
As they say "job jobbed".

I pray none would enter into my yard and the cats see it.
I remember stopping because a few vehicles were stopped ahead of me and the other lane had a few cars.
Got out of the truck and saw some people trying to move the snapping turtle out of the road.
I was coming back from a gardening client and grabbed a shovel to move the turtle. They sure like to hiss at you.

·2 months agoDay 2 of my trail cam caught two of the culprits.
The masked bandit was around for about 1/2 hour ----------- 2:21 to 2:50 AM
No evidence that it ever got up to the feeder.
Gray squirrel was out this AM from around 7 to 7:30
Did not transfer gray pic from one computer to other.
My current "in-use" computer does not want me to get the pics from the SD card
so I have to download to the other computer, and then send to this one.
Nothing impressive about the gray (or the masked bandit as far as that goes).
Don't know how to add video, so would be just a common pic.
My outdoor crew is not as impressive as a turtle, opossum, or a bunny.
Last turtle that I saw was on the white line between lane one and two on the

I went to a local hunting/gun store recently looking for a trail cam that would connect to my wifi. (we have excellent wifi that reaches into my outbuildings) Something I could move around the yard and download pics via app from inside the house.
He said none of his did that but I could find it at Best Buy..... I have not followed up on that.

I did see many that worked where I could see things on my phone, but my intention is just to have it close by so I did not want to get anything too complicated.
I can view and delete right there on the camera, (small view screen) or pull the SD card and download to the computer and then review and delete.
Got mine from Wally dot com. Many many to choose from there.

·2 months agoAnother pro-tip concerning ladder safety: always keep the area directly beneath the ladder free of debris and equipment.
No one expects to fall but imagine hitting a table saw compared to hitting the ground.
And speaking of falling my rib popped back into place this morning. Maybe I'll get a good night's sleep tonite 😴

I will get working on my gardens. All the rhubarb are blooming and need to cut all those stalks.
Need to get my house cleaned up, too.
I can see the oriental poppies, irises, bachelor buttons are blooming.

·2 months agoWas supposed to take a son and two granddaughters fishing today but encountered one of those pesky First World Problems yesterday while going out to pre-bait our fishing holes yesterday.
Was running up the lake and about a mile into the journey an alarm went off from the motor and I had to shut it down right away and use the trolling motor to get back in and put it on the trailer. Oh well, it has been about 7-8 years or longer since a breakdown of that nature so no complaining here.
The alarm indicated something wrong with the oil pump or air compressor not operating effectively. Sooooo, back to work here in the office today. Plenty to do in here and/or outside. No possible way to be bored as that came up in a conversation yesterday. My MIL (RIP) used to say, “If you are bored, you are a boring person”
Best to all this Memorial day as we honor those that gave it all.

·2 months agoSeems I am not the armadillo trapper that I have aspired to be.
Been a week or so, nada but a bunny and this opossum. It was playing opossum and was up against the side of the trap l and I was scratching behind his tail and it turned around and hissed at me.
Would not come out of the trap so I had to prop the door open and leave for it to scamper off.

·2 months agoYesterday, there was some rain.
Later in the day, I did go down to the divorce house and move furniture and did some heavy cleaning with the shop vac. I thought I get some work done before the road crew start paving the roadway.
Was able to move a pineapple spindle bed, a couple of dressers, wooden frame mirrors, and miscellaneous stuff.
Now, I noticed a funny squeak with my truck. Grrrrrr !
I really need to sit down and find a camera today.
I took pictures of the divorce house and what will be left for the junk/ large trash pick up.
What I hear, is that they are bringing in 3 dumpsters. I think that is too many.
This camera took okay pictures but, I need something for things I sell that is clear and taking close ups doesn't slightly blurr.

·2 months agoSo far the trail cam is mostly a bust. Other than the birds, and myself all I saw was one pesky squirrel in the early morning. It did not seem to have stayed long. Tripped one photo, and one video. Wanted to see what is happening at night. Seems most of the trips were caused by wind gusts.
Took last nights mouse catch out to the road for crow treats. Glanced up the highway when putting them out (looking for traffic) and saw a huge bird fly away. There is a raccoon carcass up that way by the highway. Not sure what it was, but it sure was not a crow. Wing span had to be at least 3 feet. Thinking turkey vulture.

I was out for a McDonald's treat and came home on the back road. A distant neighbor was having a rummage sale. ( purchased a machete knife ). He said that 2 years ago, they harvested over 300 beavers from Honey Creek that goes across his property plus some other properties.

·2 months agoOut in the yard a noticed that I have some lilacs in bloom on the East side of the South lawn. Had just been looking out the windows and from the deck and had no blooms in any direction from there.
Cool this weekend, so not much more will bloom. Have some of these in my yard and over on neighbor hillside. Neighbor has an isolated clump over on the lawn. Surprise that it's there. A few years back someone (not the neighbor) shoveled up a clump in that spot, but must have missed some.
What won't grow much is the pine that was sprayed by the crew that was clearing under the power lines. This could have become a problem in 50-100 years so they took care of it. (and anything within over spray area)

I do much better when no one is around. I think my mishaps may have been caused by the distraction of the scraper's all girl crew who was working here an hour before.
Re ladders: one of the mysteries of life is why is it easier to climb up a ladder then down, (trees too), the other being; how come all race courses are raced making left turns?
For memorial Day I picked up a copy of the mini series turned movie Gettysburg. We don't visit cemeteries on memorial day anymore for some reason, or fly flags, but regaled that honor to mother's day.

·2 months agoKey thing when laddering for me is to remember to put lots of ladder above the up end climb off point because of the easy getting off and difficult getting back on.

·2 months agoI realized that I have to extend the ladder, but I would like a wall or rail that I can grab onto on one side of where I am going. The 2 secondary haylofts that I had to cleaned up, one was very easy to get up and the other wasn't. The one had a easy to get to wall extension, the other had railings around and hard to get in between the railings.

Just heard last week that a old frenemy of mine bought it falling a tree. Last night he came to me in a dream and this morning (since he was Irish) I said ten Hail Marys and a Saint Gertrude prayer for him.
He was a gambler and always messing around with chainsaws. Bad combination.
This is about the size of the trees on his place and all on a steep slope
Being Oregon firs are much bigger then Georgia pines I think he thought he had to something to prove.

Chainsaws… there are a lot of things that can happen while using them and many of those happenings can be bad. The other accident-prone item in that line is a maul. Though the boyz can handle both, I don’t even allow them to break either out when here. I pretty much hire all the chain-sawing out these days even though I am owner of a 14”, 20” and one that has a 24” and 36” bar. I bought a little cutie one recently, like a 4” or 6” battery powered. That thing could be considered dangerous as it is hard to always keep both hands on it. Don’t know if I would recommend it or not. Does the job but………
After getting laid off from HP in 2006, I started a tree service in 2007 and did that for 3-4 years. Was most certainly not the brightest of my life work ideas. Just glad I never made any capital-type equipment investments as I rented anything else I needed other than saws and other small power tools. Never did any climbing, only bid the jobs where I could get a lift in. Was faster that way, in my mind.
I have an Oregon power chain sharpener. I can dayam sure get a chain as close to new with it still. I don’t use the lock-down mechanism on it. Do them free-hand. Luckily, after 20+ years of working this property, all tree work has been completed. After thinning out the trees that were never going to make anything or were too crowded, probably removed 100 over 1.5 or 2 acres, we just watch them grow now. Gets shadier every year.
Received a “Goldilocks” .45” of God’s beautiful rain overnight and more expected here in the next couple of hours.

·2 months agoI got 1.14" of rain in my area last night and the other side of town got 1.45". Lots of thunder and lightening to go with it. Sure has been a strange May for us. Usually dry and in the 90s but lots of rain which we need and temps in the 80s during the day. My plants are loving the rain.
Picking up two kittens from a local spay/neuter place today. The finder of the cat family is keeping the mom and one of the kits and asked if we could find homes for the two males. I plan to contact one of the local no kill shelters to see if they can take them in for adoption along with a dontaion. No more room in this house for more cats.

We received another 1.40" today. Hardly any runoff whatsoever here at the house. We had right about a 2" total over the last day or so.
Awesome that you picked up the kits. I do wish we had room for more cats in the house but 4 is the limit. My office cat is not hospitable and that would make it really hard to add another. She is the only house cat that gets to go outside for short stints, and she hates Fluff, with passion...... Growling, screaming, hissing, you name it. She is very territorial.

·2 months agoWent to pick up two and came home with three. Two 10 week old siblings and an 8 week old male that needs a vet visit for some bumps on his neck that the person who brought him in was not able to provide. She was trying to find a home for the kitten and asked if I would take him. I hesitated but figure if I am asking for two then one more would probably not be a deal breaker. He is a cutie so that will help. My house is at capacity now too. I will drop him off at my vet's clinic tomorrow so she can get a look at his bumps and then I will fill out the intake forms to get this show on the road. They are spayed/neutered with all their vaccinations so hopefully they will jump to the front in the process.

·2 months agoToday started with breakfast with The Centenarian. WWII vet. There is no outdressing him in the morning. Check out that belt buckle. Did not have pressed jeans today and I was surprised at that. He is always up on current events, and we did go together yesterday to vote. Sports an IPhone17 and can use it pretty good. Always texting me stuff, sending pics. Proud to call him, my friend.
Breakfast today suited the diet I am on. Western omelet, nothing else. No bread or fried potatoes. I do bring my own salsa. I get about 5 sittings out of a jar of salsa. Lot of coffee and water, every day.

I've seen two tree service companies start in this part of the county recently. Both with bucket trucks with chippers. Big investment. One company stays busy the other not so much.
Anyway, if you can't keep your chain sharpened it's no use owning one and I don't have one (which is probably a good thing:)

·2 months agoRe tree service: the booming tree service company, Eduardos, was bringing in tons of woods chips for us mading a literal mountain in the pasture.
This worked fine for a couple of years eliminating the mud, but, then everywhere we spread the wood chips it turned to a kind of slurry worse then the mud.
Pro-tip: don't use wood chips in corrals. Horses will eat wood and some types of wood are poisonous to horses; as I was told by my neighbor who ran a Asplundh tree service crew for years.

·2 months agoI watch a few of those that mow free people's yard and one of the people uses a 16-24" chainsaw with one hand. IT DRIVES ME CRAZY to see that. With vines, the 6-8" is okay with one hand, but getting into smaller trees, it's both hands.
I'm on my second chainsaw - Stihl. My first one, a Craftsman, is still good, but it's hard to find any small engine repair places ( and at a reasonable price ). My mom purchased the Craftsman for my Birthday/Christmas present and then asked if I could trim up the walnut tree for her.

I get that you have " happenings" that leave you in a situation that can leave you in trouble.
For me, and doing cleaning up work at the neighbor's farm, I have found myself in some situations.
Now, I have noticed that last 2 years that my strength has lessen so much and scares me that I can't lift things off of me.
Last year, I cleaned out the upper haylofts and had no problems getting up there, but trying to use the ladder down was another thing. Took a couple of tries to do it. I guess my balance is more off center than my normal.
Even a normal jump off a step is now " what the heck" with my balance. 😄 😄

·2 months agoYesterday was different. First I was standing on two blocks reaching over a fence for something when one of the blocks shifted and dropped me on the top rail hard on my left side. That hurt.
Then I was trying to put this old motorcycle up on its stands (front tire flat & been sitting for years) when it tipped over on me bouncing the back of my head on the ground and trapping my right foot underneath. Sheesh.
Anyway, I wiggled around to get in a position were I could lift with my other knee and hands and got free but tore my crock in the process so today I went to Walmart and got two new pairs of Ruggedsharks all by myself and the cashier even called me sweetie.
I think I'm going to suggest to the landlord that he sell his son's RoadStar. I see ads all the time offering cash for unwanted motorcycle (I think they're eBay parter-outers).
Despite the injuries I got a spot cleared up for cousin to park his big stock/hay trailer on.
PS and being overdramatic after I finished outside I came in and jotted down the gate code for the storage unit, (she just mentioned the other day she needs the code in case something happens to me), and said this is just in case I don't wake-up tomorrow, (heart punch, head slam and a smashed foot is a weird combination in my imagination.)

·2 months agoThe road crew started at 6:30am to strip down the road and that is all completed today.
Road crew is not to work Saturday and Sunday and hopefully the movers will have no problem getting down to the house tomorrow.
After the crew left, I did make one trip to the house and took a load.
She has a 20 foot step ladder I took and I saw some bags of rock salt ( perfect for winter ice ).
I also spotted some good oak lumber in the rafters and wasn't going to let the junk crew get that.
I was hoping to make a second trip, but my body and FEET are yelling at me.
Also found out that the brush hog wasn't included in the sale of the house.
Got a neighbor and we loaded it up on my truck and took that to the farm.
And . . . maybe the new Cub Cadet mower may be going to the farm.
With all the heavy lifting and walking, I have been getting bad leg cramps. Went to bed and pulled my legs into bed . . . YIKES my thigh muscle went nuts. Almost didn't make it to the heating pad and took some Arnica. I keep putting if off, but I need to pick up some Magnesium.
I may need to resole the bottoms of my feet. 🙄

·2 months agoHere are a few of the impatiens baskets. I bought the little 6-packs for $2.98 and tried to squeeze 6 into each basket. The baskets have those liners in them, and they deteriorate some over a couple seasons. I save any that can’t be reused and use those for patching other liners. I still have to buy a few every year but remains cost tolerant over the years. The impatiens will cover the whole baskets by summer time and will continue to bloom all summer into the fall in the shade of the trees, just add water. Any direct summer sunlight makes impatiens frown.
You can see one of the Havahart box traps on a trail going back into the woods on the left side of the picture. Have still zeroed on armadillos. They are not coming out of the woods towards the yard right now though that will happen when it totally dries out in the woods this summer. I reckon I will move the Havaharts out into the woods.
I did catch my first customer, one of the bunnies. They are not really afraid of us and we can walk up to about 10 feet away before the scamper off. Bunny did not act stressed though pretty sure I was catching a bit of stink-eye as I let it out of the trap.

Dandelions and wild strawberry around the yard.
Daffodils have bloomed and passed.
As I look out I see the crab apple has some blooms.
Lily of the Valley is trying. Purple blooms and some wild strawberry by the garage door.
So much for the flora. Next the fauna. Finally have splurged and purchased a trail cam. Supposed to arrive tomorrow. Won't have to get up and look out the door at 2AM to see what visitor is there.
Tried some cayenne pepper powder on the feeder to deter the squirrels, but does not seem that it is working. I know the mice don't care.

·2 months agoI've found that begonias also do very well in hanging baskets in dappled shade. Nice big blooms and a splash of color.
We buy a few every spring and I just hit them with a splash of water every two or three days.
Nice looking baskets with the impatiens...................

Not hoed by me but by Lupe. As a rule I keep out of Lupe's garden every since he chewed me out for watering his corn too late in the season. After the initial waving of arms and, I assume, swearing in Spanish he followed me around for the next five minutes as I removed all the other sprinkles from his other garden spots repeatedly saying comprendí? So I now stifle any urges to be helpful in Lupe's garden and only admire them from my yard.
