Policy clarification: private filament price comparison app using the Browse API
Summary: lusaat18 is a developer from Germany planning to create a private, non-commercial Android app for themselves and friends to compare 3D-printer filament prices. The app will use the eBay Browse API to showcase listings from eBay.de and independent shops for comparison. They seek clarification on whether this usage is allowed under the API License Agreement, specifically sections 8.1(b) and 9.3, and inquire about the need for any approvals or changes before proceeding, despite not yet accepting the agreement.
Hello,
I am an individual developer in Germany considering an Android app for private use by myself and a small group of friends. The app is not intended to be publicly distributed or monetized.
It would use the Browse API to show public eBay.de listings for 3D-printer filament, including the listing price, shipping information if available, and a direct link to the eBay listing. The app also shows offers from independent shops such as Anycubic, so users could compare the same filament and spool size across shops.
I have questions about whether this use is permitted under the API License Agreement, especially Sections 8.1(b) and 9.3:
Is this private, non-commercial use allowed?
If so, would displaying eBay offers in a visually separate eBay section be sufficient, or is comparing eBay listings with third-party shop offers not permitted?
Would this use require prior written approval, eBay Partner Network approval, or Buy API production access?
I have not accepted the API License Agreement yet. Please clarify what approvals or changes would be required before I proceed.
Thank you.
