Your comment has been approved?
Summary: Participants are discussing a new and inconsistent notification system for comment approvals on a forum. Several users, including inhawaii, have received notifications when their comments are approved, sparking confusion about the criteria for triggering reviews. Some speculate about AI involvement in flagging comments based on certain keywords or content types, such as photos or links. Others express frustration with perceived censorship and lack of transparency about the forum's new moderation policies. The conversation includes light-hearted exchanges and some users sharing methods to test what might trigger comment reviews.
Why do I receive a notification (only sometimes) that my comment has been approved?

·1 month agoDoes 'Pending approval' only show on new topics? Or is there an indicator on replies too that they are pending?
I don't see a pending indicator when my replies are pending approval.
gurlcat
·1 month agoI haven't seen the word 'pending' anywhere here.
gurlcat
·1 month agoHey @inhawaii Did you originally post this in Cafe? Just curious because I haven't yet seen any other posts get moved to other forums, and was wondering if this new outfit just wasn't going to do that.
inhawaii
OP1 month agoNo, it was posted in selling.
My post "I think ebay's AI is on drugs" was pending approval for quite a while.
When it finally got approved and posted, it was already on page 2 and never really got seen.
gurlcat
·1 month agoOkay thank you. This place is starting to smell bad.

·1 month agoMy post from this afternoon, simply asking the difference between getting removed and getting archived ... got archived, about an hour ago.

·1 month ago...and my response to said post went with it. this is what I get if I try to view it:
gurlcat
·1 month ago@nyr134 I don't know about you, but I don't recall EVER seeing this level of censorship in the old forum. Those mods would redact words and phrases, maybe whole replies, but never a whole OP and all replies to it. At worst they would lock the thread to further replies, but the extant content would remain readable.
What makes this extra sickening to me is how I was one of the 2 or 3 cheerleaders from day 1 of the transition, saying "Give it some time, it'll get better." 😔
fabrics24
·1 month agoI'm pretty sure a thread I just commented on just got archived for OP being rude. Which...sure, they shouldn't be rude to people trying to help them, but I don't think that's a censorship-worthy offense. Not to mention, that's just a hunch; I don't actually know why the thread got the ax. It feels arbitrary, just like with your thread.
All I do know is that there was good information in that thread, and now nobody gets to read it. :(
I'm sure this could be construed as a personal problem but...The "your comment has been archived" feels like I'm getting tsk'd for something without actually being told the rules. We're expected to behave, but not told what we need to do in order to behave. We're just told "shut up; don't say that." Say what? IDK, figure it out.
:\
gurlcat
·1 month agoJeez. This is not going to fly. It's one thing to see a thread get locked to further replies, but for the whole thing to vanish is really a slap in the face to everyone who gave their time to reply. If that keeps happening, participation will absolutely plummet, including that of very helpful people.

·1 month agoI think the eBay cafe is the new ebay community platform feedback forum…
gurlcat
·1 month agoIf so, then I guess it's better than having your thread totally POOF'd like mine was yesterday, but:
1. Migration is not being done evenly. I can think of several that are not here, so they're either still in Selling, or they were POOF'd.
2. They need to devise a system of migration notification for people who'd participated up to that point, like they had in the old forum. In fact they should have programmed that feature BEFORE they started slinging threads around.

OP1 month agoI posted something tonight.
Didn't see it on the boards.
So I checked my profile for my posts and found this.
Notice the "Pending Approval".

I have a Satan kitten, but she's not so much food-possessive. No, what triggers her is LOVE. Note this photo sequence. The blurry face middle image is her in mid-transformation, like in a movie or cartoon when the nice guy transforms into the monster.

·1 month agoIt says your comment has been "archived" but I can see it. I wonder if "archived" may have multiple meanings in these new forums.
I got a notice a reply of mine was archived and I could never find it again...
chapeau-noir
·1 month agoThey disappeared my Mad Duck gif - wherever that 'archive' is, I don't see it, either.
gurlcat
·1 month ago · Edited@roccotacodad54 @chapeau-noir I started a post earlier today, simply pondering the difference between "archived" vs. "removed" (because I've had both here).
Here is what just happened, several hours after starting that post. -Which didn't even get many replies by the way, and certainly none as wild as this thread.

OP1 month agoWhat if I do not approve of your comment(s)?
Then I'll just have to take over Canada.
grann-4629
·1 month agoYou won't like it ... it gets really cold here and we get snow. Besides, that guy who keeps saying this for real hasn't realized there is a price to pay ... he's gotta' give up California, Montana and both Dakotas.

·1 month agoJust now, I saw that the “last reply” was 8 minutes ago - so I wanted to see what that was. I had to scroll through a couple of dozen posts before I found it. Selecting “Recently Engaged” didn’t take me there nor did “Newest”. If the most recent post is not in response to the OP’s original, how does one find it (or anything recently added to the discussion)?
participatrophy
·1 month ago@onlinecentral's idea to ctrl-f the word "minutes" sounded like a promising workaround. Haven't tried it yet but def seems worthwhile.

gurlcat
·1 month agoMy god let's hope not.

·1 month agoI was testing with that comment to see what stays, what is permitted. I'd like to know where the line is. Mentioning "T's pool guys" may not count as forbidden words.
gurlcat
·1 month ago@albertabrightalberta Hey totally off-topic but I noticed in another discussion (in Mentors, so I couldn't reply there) that you didn't know why you couldn't tag wastingtime101. I just did a search of his name, found some old threads he had replied in, clicked to go to his profile, and this is what it shows. I'm utterly baffled.

This new platform seems to have more glitches than it should.
albertabrightalberta
·1 month agoHow many people remember the times not so long ago when (usually in the middle of the night when Khoros mods weren't around) and spammers would make a post with several absolutely disgusting and literally nauseating pictures of sexually explicit behavior, nudism, fetish behaviors, etc.
Because of the timing and lack of moderation at that hour, posts stayed up way longer than they should have so ebay solution was to eliminate the ability of newbies to post pictures.
In fact even as recently as within the last couple of weeks, if posters were unable to post pictures, we'd ask the OP to send the pictures to us in a PM so we could upload them.
I wonder if the posts needing approval are ebay's way to avoid the posting of similar disallowed content.
toomuchstuffagain35
·1 month ago · EditedThat only happened because they were too cheap to have 24/7 moderation.
I even remember WAY back when you had to have 10 feedback before you could post to the boards. Annoying but it stopped the scammers (at that time anyway).
gurlcat
·1 month agoMight have stopped scammers but it also would have stopped new buyers and sellers too, people who would need help more than veteran users.
toomuchstuffagain35
·1 month ago · EditedOkay, this is hysterical - inhawaii's userID has apparently been changed to mgphfv according to the AI summary

·1 month agoI think I’m mw8knn. Not sure why they anonymize our usernames as if we’re bidders on an auction…
fabrics24
·1 month agoThis is the most far out guess, but I like to think it "learned" that you can't name buyers and sellers here on the forums, and so it got confused.
gurlcat
·1 month agoI noticed that in another thread earlier, and did a little surfing around. Looks like all threads' summaries have pseudonyms starting with 'm' including threads started days ago.
toomuchstuffagain35
·1 month agoWell that's freaking even more stupid than the AI Summary was in the first place.
mcdougle4248
·1 month agoHey everyone, here is some useless info. I just figured out that when you click on your or anyone else's profile, you will see the username in the URL that AI references in the summaries.

fabrics24
·1 month agoThe AI is scanning your posts to decide if you said something inappropriate or not :/
I said 🔫 earlier, and the AI decided that was suspect. The comment was thankfully approved, but jeez, I feel like I'm in 1984 doublespeak saying "rootie tootie point-n-shooties are against ebay policy"
broto_64
·1 month agoTo be fair ebay wasn't around in 1984.
gurlcat
·1 month agoWait, did you actually write the word "gun" or just use the emoji? I guess now I'll find out if my reply gets "approved" since I wrote the g-word. 😁
gurlcat
·1 month agoAh yes, I did have to have that word "approved."
fabrics24
·1 month agoI can tolerate censoring swear words because they did it on the old forum, but like...we need to say that word and others like it to inform people asking why their listings got removed.
Another censored word is 🥊 or the thing you do with it.
This is kind of out of control.
gurlcat
·1 month agoBut they're NOT censoring them. Look: gun gun gun. Punch punch punch.
chapeau-noir
·1 month agoPew pew pew!
fabrics24
·1 month agoI guess, but I'm going to be annoyed that I get a notification about it every time I say the word gun XD
Like yes! I said gun! Thanks for noticing!
I'll just have to get used to it, it seems.
grann-4629
·1 month agoDo you mean PUNCH with GUN, SWORD, KNIFE or a little round piece of red plastic that was obviously an illegal POLICE item, even though most of us couldn't give a CRAP?
gone.c-33
·1 month agoWeeee! We’re allowed to say “crap” again! No more carp!
gurlcat
·1 month ago · EditedI never brought this up but I noticed crap got whitelisted some months back, in the old forum. I noticed it a few times in posts, unredacted. Then I tried it myself and sure enough, it stuck, and no finger-wag email from khoros.
Actually I'm not even certain if it was a 'hardwired' verboden word, ever. Might have just been one that 'certain' other members considered crass, reported, and got a khoros mod who agreed. But I don't know, just speculating.

·1 month agoIt appears feedback numbers are not updated here ...
gurlcat
·1 month agoYeah it gave me a wee fright the first time I noticed it. I knew I had 1949 but then I saw 1948 here, and I thought that could mean only one thing: that a buyer had negged me. 😩
And normally I wouldn't even mind a neg, in fact I kinda want one. But there's just something about the initial discovery that ignites panic, kinda like when I see an unexpected snake or large spider, neither of which truly scare me.

gone.c-33
·1 month agoI don’t know if this falls in the paranoid column of the ledger 😂 but I wouldn’t be surprised if the AI summaries will be used to answer posts down the line.
gurlcat
·1 month ago · EditedEh, I wouldn't care if it started trying to answer questions, but I doubt it would do that and then also lock the thread to further replies. If it does okay then I would be p!sssssed offffff. (let's see if it sees what I did there). BTW I love what you said about how the Brits are putting it to the test. I've been doing that a little bit here and there, but not with much enthusiasm (yet).

gurlcat
·1 month ago · EditedDid 'Trump' need approval? I'm starting to wonder if you gain 'trust' by having some number of flags already approved, or something. If you scroll down to the comment thread started by fabrics24, I did get approved to say 'gun' the first time, but not the second time, nor 'punch', nor anything else I've tried since. EDIT: I don't mean those were NOT approved, but that I didn't get notifications that they were approved.
Let's see about a photo.
grann-4629
