Rest in peace, eBay Community Board
Summary: 1786davycrockett and other participants express dissatisfaction with the recent changes to the eBay Community Boards, describing the new format as clumsy, visually unappealing, and not conducive to member communication. css2001 agrees, noting that the removal of the private messaging option and automatic rerouting to the 'Ask a Mentor' forum diminishes the community aspect. gurlcat clarifies that the automatic rerouting to mentors has always existed, though it may be more visible now. mr_lincoln inquires about the possibility of selecting a preferred landing page, while tobaccocardyahoo and funfactorychannel discuss navigation issues on the platform.
It has been slightly over one week since the Powers That Be at eBay introduced the latest "improved" Community Boards.
We are not amused.
The format is clumsy; chronology of replies seems disjointed and hard to comprehend; visually, it is very sterile and colorless; and most of the regulars have disappeared in droves.
If the intention to remodel the Boards was to decrease the amount of traffic and communication between eBay members, then the new eBay Community Boards may be considered a resounding success.
But most of us are longing for the Community Boards of yesteryear -- that is, before June 15.
Big, stinking mess, eBay -- give us back the old Boards.

·1 month ago · EditedI totally agree @1786davycrockett . I seldom visit the Community Boards now, today I was bored. And yes, it appears that this new version was designed to eliminate member-to-member communication, including removing the PM option.
Most posters coming here for advice are choosing "Ask a Mentor", so us non-mentors with years of buying and/or selling experience are left out of answering their questions. So how can this be considered a community board?
gurlcat
·1 month agoIt's not that most posters are choosing 'Ask a Mentor.' The eBay platform automatically routes sellers and buyers who click the Community choice in 'Help and Contact' -TO the Mentor forum. That was ALWAYS the case, including on the old forum.
Why so many people think Ask A Mentor has become dominant here, I don't know. I guess maybe the home page shows those posts here in the new forum, but didn't in the old one? @mr_lincoln this is what I'm talking about.

Got it ... I am wondering (and have asked) if we will be able to select our preferred landing page. Sure we could bookmark one but I would like to know if it will be selectable. I seem to recall that Khoros landed me on the Home page with a list of recent threads (don't recall what board) and I would simply click to where I wanted to go ... sort of a rote behavior.

·1 month agoI think that the issues are exacerbated by the fact that Buying and Selling is a drop down menu, and not also a selection.
I regularly selected Buying and Selling on Khoros and got the threads which I was interested in, and not Ask A Mentor and other threads which I am not interested in.
