NEW MEDICAID RULES - AFFECTS ON THE ABLE BODIED ONLINE SELLER POPULACE WHO ARE ENROLLED
I wonder how many able-bodied people, including online sellers, who's medicaid qualification has allowed them to eke out a living, not needing to get a "jobby-job" because they've never had to worry about medical expenses - My guess is this is gonna sink a LOT of ships for small online sellers. As a concerned taxpayer, I say its about time.

·7 months agoIf y'all are mad about how much Medicaid costs, wait till you see what the budget for national defense and ICE is like.
Let's not tear each other down - we pay for this with our taxes. I'd rather see that money go toward healthcare instead of war. Especially war on our own citizens.
Which makes you more mad? Someone gaming the system just so they can stay alive, or a billionaire ignoring Congress so he can commit war crimes?
Priorities.

Interfering with law enforcement is a dangerous thing to do especially using an automobile or when one is armed.
I don't think that rises to "enacting war on our own citizens".
It's a shame the way those two incidents turned out but not totally unexpected when someone is acting aggressively towards law enforcement to prevent them from and/or interfering with them making arrests.
It's never a good idea to act aggressively towards someone who one knows is armed and under alot of stress.

The guy currently in the oval office wants to increase military spending by 50% annually or by 500 billion dollars per year. (Source CNN) That money can go towards incentivizing home buildings to build many homes for LMI homebuyers he wants to help, or subsidize healthcare for millions of LMI families. The military does not need the money they already get more than a trillion with T a year.

·1 year agoIt all sounds like a big ol scam to me. The government keeps increasing the debt ceiling and making non existent money exist which they divide up upon themselves and then it devalues the currency further and the solutions they come up with is Leroy selling his eBays and having Medicaid is what got us into this mess. Just sounds like a lie to me. It's not even a band aid it's just a fabrication. I can nearly guarantee it's the people voting to take on more debt that are the issue here.

·1 year agoUnfortunately, the issue of able-bodied people on Medicaid and the high cost of ACA policies is intertwined.
Many of these people who have lost Medicaid coverage should be covered by subsidized ACA insurance but the cost would be so high that support for Obamacare would wane.
Nothing is simple.
The rural hospital issue is a thorny one. In truth, with or without these medicaid recipients, many rural hospitals are financially unstable. Not only that but with their low patient volumes, they may be medically unsafe. A recent news store here in Northern New England dealt with the closing of maternity services in a rural Maine hospital. The number of births was so low that the staff failed to meet requirements for competent care.
IMO, the government is capable of identifying problems with greater accuracy than it can provide solutions for the problems. This is one of those situations. Past solutions for real problems helped create this problem.

·1 year agoGutting Medicaid means many rural hospitals will close. Most people who depend on rural hospitals voted for Trump.

You are correct and frankly I hope they get exactly what they deserve. I live in a retirement area. Many of these people are drinking the kool aid and think prices have gone down etc, etc,
soh.maryl
·1 year agoHow do you know that "Most people who depend on rural hospitals voted for Trump."?
Where would one obtain that statistic? How would the information that I am a Medicaid recipient (although I am not) get transferred to my voting registration info? And how would a BOE know who I voted for?
chapeau-noir
·1 year agoIt's just a statistical averaging of percentage of Medicaid enrollees in states matched with a state's general voting record. Pretty much public record.
soh.maryl
·1 year agoOK, let's say there are 3 million voters in my state. How do we know how many are on Medicaid?
Also, let's say that there are 1 million recipients of Medicaid in my state. How do we know how many vote?
I still don't understand how that correlates?
frugalmarketplace
·1 year ago@soh.maryl
they can figure that out by how districts Voted.. I live in Pima County and it is always blue…take a look
https://www.politico.com/2024-election/results/arizona/
That shows which counties went red and blue. So if you lived in one of those counties the odds are that is how you voted. The red areas are more rural here except for Phoenix.
soh.maryl
·1 year agoYes, they can figure out that 4,786 people voted for "A" and 7,896 people voted for "B".
Am not disagreeing with that at all.
What I AM saying is that there is no way for anyone to figure out how many of those voters are on Medicaid.
Which is the reason I am disagreeing with the person who stated that most of the voters who are on Medicaid voted for Trump.
Presumably, there are statistics supporting that statement. What I am asking is to see the actual numbers and the source of those numbers.
Again, if I live in a state with 3 million voters and there are 1 million state residents on Medicaid, yes, an available statistic, and that 2 million voters voted for Trump, how does that correlate? How do we know how many of those 2 million voters are on Medicaid? That could be true, but how would we know that?
soh.maryl
·1 year agoOK, but, in any state, how does the number of red votes and blue votes correlate with the number of voters who are on Medicaid in any state?
frugalmarketplace
·1 year ago@soh.maryl
The red states have a higher percentage of Medicaid recipients. They voted for Trump.
soh.maryl
·1 year agoThey ALL voted for Trump, every last one of them?
And how do we know who ANYONE voted for?
And how do we know that ALL the Medicaid recipients voted for Trump?
So that promise about the complete and total confidentiality of your vote is just a bunch of hooey?
I have to give up on this. Evidently, not getting my point across.

·1 year agoWhen hospitals receive less medicaid payments...guess what happens?
People who do have real health insurance...their premiums will go up to offset the loss of medicaid payments to keep the health industry running as well as the hospitals and urgent care facilities, etc.
It means those who pay for health insurance will now have to pay more...

·1 year agoEnjoy it while it lasts my friend. I'm pretty sure this admins child island debacle is going to usher in a tsunami against them. I'm switching how I vote because of what I am looking at now. Just have em increase the debt ceiling and kick it on down the road. I'm all for people getting what they can. All our politicians do. Don't we pretty much entirely fund another country in the mid east so they can have free healthcare for their citizens? Why not here or cut their funding?

·1 year agoThere are always some friend of a friend that abuses a program and than it becomes the excuse to curtail government programs. Example is that when politicians go on about welfare, but do not explain that most people on welfare get Medicaid and work.
My son is on Medicaid and does not work. You would be hard pressed to know that anything is wrong with him except he has a CP. He does not qualify for SSI and the few jobs he has tried, he ends up getting fired because of his issues.
isaiah53-57

*I want to be clear that I am as progressive as they come. I am totally in favor of social programs. We need them..we need to provide assistance to people in need.
What we do not need are people who abuse the system….Now I do not like our country right now. I am very concerned about the stupid things that are going on that accomplish nothing and waste our money. I am sick when I briefly look at the news. However as I stated , abuse of the system needs to be stopped. What currently is going on is just flat out chaos, and I hope we survive this.

·1 year agoThere are 71 million people on Medicaid and More than 2/3 of the number of people on Medicaid that are not working, are Senior Citizens. Send Grandma in the nursing home out to work NOW>
8.8 Million are disabled, but do not qualify SSI benefits.
There are only about 4 million people who do not work and get benefits. They are mostly the unemployed in areas with poor job prospects. Recent collage graduates who are usually off Medicaid in a year, very few stay on Medicaid for any length of time. People who work on family farms, home health care, and stay at home fathers.
Hardly a crisis. Doubt it will effect Ebay.
isaiah53-57
OP1 year agoMost senior citizens are on MEDICARE not medicaid - and they likely earned that - The post refers to ABLE-BODIED individuals who have been fleecing the Medicad program.
When Medicaid was established, about 10% of the populace qualified - It was meant for needy people, not anyone who doesn't feel like working to their potential - Now about 1/3 of the US population is enrolled in it, let alone those who qualify.
Nah - Time for an accounting

·1 year agoNope.
Medicaid pays for Nursing homes, Home health care aides, Senior day care centers, meal assistance and it goes on.
isaiah53-57
OP1 year agoAnd if thats the case, the people you are referring to will not be affected by the new qualifications, so its a moot point
frugalmarketplace
·1 year ago@isaiah53-57
Medicaid does not pay for nursing homes….not quite. You have to be qualified. That means you have to meet those poverty type guidelines.
‘There is a nice assisted living/nursing home down the road from us. The cost for a 1000 sq ft patio home is an upfront non refundable payment of $550,000 and $7700 a month. That includes 20 meals a MONTH. Most people would have to liquidate their home a savings just to live there.

·1 year agoThere is a portion of the legal profession which specializes in helping people qualify.
Some refer to Medicaid nursing home coverage as welfare for the middle class.
The regulations are such that if you plan ahead you can transfer your assets and only be poor on paper. Irrevocable trusts are one of the tools used.

People who do not plan adequately and early pay the bills for themselves and taxes to fund those who have planned ahead.

If people that didn’t have Medicaid coverage even though they are able bodied get sick guess who ends up paying for their medical care? If the same people lose access to preventive care because they no longer have access to Medicaid end up getting sicker and end up in hospital guess who pays. Preventative care is much cheaper in the long run than emergency room care.
As a tax payer I’d rather pay less now than more later.

·1 year agoAgree with you on the "it probably won't affect ebay"....however, without turning this into a fact-slinging political farce, your source for your demographics by age and sending grandma into the work force is?
This is quoting from multiple sources:
Medicaid enrollment demographics by age show that children and young adults are the largest group of beneficiaries, with adults aged 19-64 and seniors making up the rest. Specifically, children represent about 36% of enrollees, while adults aged 19-64 account for roughly 42%. Older adults (65+) and those with disabilities make up the remaining 22%
whatmorefabric
·1 year agoYour numbers are pretty correct.
Of those between 19 and 64, most are disabled or are eligible because they are women with small children. Students in college are still eligible for Medicaid. So a young man wanting to get ahead that works 30 hours a week in a job, would still be eligible for Medicaid.
It isn't a numbers issue as much as leaving the impression that the people that are going to get kicked off of Medicaid are lazy. 92 percent of all Americans work. They work longer hours for less pay and fewer benefits than any other industrialized nation. American workers add more profit to bottom lines of corporations than any nation in the world.
My sources are not google. They are hard numbers from boring government documents. I get paid to look things up.
isaiah53-57
OP1 year agoI dont actually agree with the statement - Im thinking this site and others like it could well be, in effect, a "sanctuary city" for people abusing the program. It likely wont affect them to a substantially degrading degree, since it would mainly hurt some small second hand sellers, but surely there will be some kind of affect, given a lot of small sellers buy a lot of what they sell here.

Just wanted to let folks know that senior citizens (65+years) are exempt from the new rules as I understand them anyway.
I also think people unable to work due to disabilities are exempt.
