·1 year agoSomeone cried about this and actually started Bonanza like twenty years ago. Are they even still around? I haven't thought about it for, like, ten years...

·1 year agoAS ecommerce sites go Ebay is second or third tier.
But Ebay is the most likely site for sellers of product which is not brand name, new and manufacturer packaged to be successfully sold by a significant number of sellers.
The market cannot support all of the existing players. For example, Mercari is considering closing its US site. Other sites are contracting or seeing big drops in their earnings. It is unlikely that anyone would consider building another Ebay competitor.

·1 year agoI love it when people have absolutely no concept how much it costs to build a platform that will accommodate nearly 2 billion listings, 140 million users and 25 million sellers. They apparently think it's Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney -- hey, let's put on a show!!!

You'll be hard pressed to find a site that has the traffic that ebay gets.
On another note, I do have one recommendation: You should proofread your listings before posting and make sure titles, descriptions and PRICES are correct. You might be sitting on that $1400 led light for a long time! (I don't think it's supposed to be $1400 since there's another seller with (multiples of) the same item for $40.)

OP1 year agoThank you for your reply, the reason the price is high is because there are 70 of them in the lot not just one.

Sorry but not interested. eBay is number 14 by ranking keyword, one below Apple. They have a publicly traded stock (Ticker: EBAY), maybe invest -- if you believe in them!? I do! Next 4 years are going to be great for eBay sellers and buyers, I predict.

·1 year agoSo far majority of my internet sales come off Ebay so they must be doing something right. You would take a loss by doing that. Those Ebay fees does go towards a lot of expense. On top of that there are a bunch of federal and state laws which you will need to deal with. Then you will have to deal with complaints which could result into giving back money to buyers.

·1 year agoTell us why you're mad at eBay.

OP1 year agoI was butt hurt about a 13% tax they charged on an item I sold / them including my shipping costs into the total cost of the item💀

·1 year agoWe can all read every post on the thread. It's not necessary to reply to every post with exactly the same thing.
EBay doesn't tax sales. There are selling fees, which are clearly spelled out here if you had done the slighest bit of research before plunging into selling. Surely you didn't think selling here was free?

·1 year agoSo, apparently you are talking about creating a "not for profit" that would operate at dirt cheap fees to parallel eBay selling but at a "break-even" level. Let us know how that works out. Would sellers be required to sell items at cost, plus packaging, plus fees also at the break-even level or would sellers be allowed to make some money?

OP1 year agoI was just venting because I was salty about a 13% tax they charged/ including my shipping charge the same as the selling price.
If I was going to try and start another one it would be a flat rate percentage not an item based scaling system. Also your comment doesn’t make sense a non for profit (like Rolex) is a company that puts any money they make back into itself instead of just the owners pockets. It wouldn’t affect the buyers/sellers it would just affect where the money the company makes from the sellers and buyers goes

·1 year agoHi @keiwee_0
Don't you think that if someone could build a platform 'just like eBay but charge way less' ... it would have been done already? But you're certainly free to try. [I hope your platform will have in-country Customer Service. 🙂]
Good luck to you!

·1 year agotake a hint....the search market is dominated and controlled by google....
even with all the 'venture capital' behind them competitors can't get a foothold
why? name recognition maybe? participation maybe?
Niche platforms have made some inroads, but it would take a monumental effort and a boatload of cash to topple ebay as the bellweather for C2C sales.......

·1 year ago🤣😂😆People have been saying eBay is going downhill for the past 20 years....guess what eBay is still here.
If you can afford to build a website just like eBay, and charge way less than eBay and still stay afloat, knock yourself out.

eBay doesn't charge tax. They charge selling fees based on the entire amount the buyer pays.
You wouldn't have been "butt hurt" as you called it, if you read up on what seller fees are.
