Ran out of cherries for the chips. Put grapes out today, and they were slow to be gathered.
put the trail cam out while I was away this afternoon/eve. 1st photo about 4PM when I put the cam out on the peg. Next photo was when I went out about 9PM to retrieve the cam. Only bird seen was me.
I have cayenne pepper power in the bird feeder, but I don't think that is the issue. Have been doing that for months, and filling it with sunflower seeds on a daily basis. Not sure if I even saw a bird today.
Passed up a basketball hoop and backboard this evening as well as a small hexagonal table at one spot. Stopped and looked at a variety of free trash at another spot where I could not stop myself from picking 5 fence slats. 1 X 4 X 42. Best I can tell is they are treated .
Left a couple of longer pieces (wish I had not) that would have been a pain to get in the car. Just can't pass up free lumber. If nothing else, they will be useful in the garage, cellar, or outside to lay down keeping whatever I choose to put on them off the concrete or ground.
Good thing that it was raining and I did not have any straps in the truck yesterday. There were some 8 foot or so long shipping crate sections that would have fit. They have plastic on them. Visions of using them as is for quick cover up of things outside.

I started over with weeding gardens. Got 7 1/2 gardens weeded. Another wheel barrel full.
Transplanted a few flowers.
Starter garden is weeded and emptied some of the pots that the plants died.
Debating about digging up 2 small trees that took a hit from the deer and replacing them with my spares.
Last Thursday, I ordered outdoor tiles and they are in Chicago today. Today, I ordered an 8x10ft shed. The shed should come in Thursday. I am hoping that I can get everything leveled and the tiles laid out ready to put the shed together.

OPyesterday at 11:50 AMYesterday was cooler, but humid. You barely come in the house and the sweat just rolls off the forehead and arms.
Had five wheel barrow full of weeds and was able to burn some of that. Weeded my compost and rhubarb garden.
Today, will be starting at the beginning of the gardens to weed again since we had the rain a couple of days and get rid of what I can.
This should go somewhat quick then to tackle/ finish the middle garden and the all the side yard/hay field gardens.

·yesterday at 4:52 AMMeanwhile as I drive the highways I was unable to stop myself. I drove on by, but as the items were still there on my return trip I opened the back hatch and tossed them in. That really isn't all that true. More like I hefted them two at a time and carefully placed them in the back.
Brake rotors. Not your basic little ones, but some serious 8 lug rotors. Fool that I am in my old age, I left the calipers there. (gone today).
Metal salvage place was basically on my line of travel today. Another place pays about 30% better for rotors (and other stuff) but out of the way today.
Got $13.55 for those 4 rotors. 160 pounds. It was worth the few minutes spent handling them.
I did drive by a complete crib (I have my recliner to sleep in) and a small table. This driving by may cease when I do some rearranging in the garage.
Owls are outside having a sing along. At least one close by, and one down the road a bit.

I have a "neck fan" that comes in handy to keep a bit cooler.
My sister saw her daughter's neck fan and ordered one for me. My niece does cooking for the adult living home and some times for a restaurant where her fellow co-workers started to buy for themselves.

·4 days agoJust sold the last two of a multi-quantity listing that were some of the 1st 100 products I listed in January 2017 as a fulltime seller. Gone and thankful for it as they were larger type items.

Stuff still sells, usually every month or thereabouts, from those listings. Most are multi-quantity listings.

OP5 days agoA few work days, but they are cooler days.
Yesterday, managed to get some more weeding done on the middle garden. Maybe 25% left to do.
I did get stung by the bumble bees, yesterday.
Need to set a day aside for mowing farm and home since we got all that rain. Should be happy not mowing for a month.

·5 days agoI have weeding to do as well in the bed outside my office where the bluebonnets were.
That is the only place that is unkept at this time. I just can't get on my knees anymore. If I do, then I can't do any cardio excercise for 4-5 days or longer, soooo, the weeds will stay until I can hire it out at some point. That bed is about 25 feet by 6 feet. Too much for me.
I may need to get me one of those tools where you use it standing up. That might work if I get the soil wet. I saw a guy using one in the median of the road yesterday.
What do you use for weeding, @policequilts ?

OP4 days agoI get on my hands and knees. I keep a trowel, knife and mini shovel.
I like to look "up close" at my weeds. This way I can see if there are babies plants. I found that my Forget-Me-Nots finally multiplied. And, some how, a two inch start of a spirea bush in the middle garden. ( my spirea bushes are in two other gardens. How this one start ? ? anyone can guess.

They are great to use, especially in cleaning between rows of veggies and such. Every so often, sharpen the edges.
When I purchased mine, it was called . . .
an "Action Hoe".
also called a loop hoe.
There is even a small hand loop hoe.

I think the road runners are nesting on my property or real close by. Seeing them throughout the day, every day.
I reckon they are finding food here.
I bought a couple of shallow plastic plant trays to provide more water at ground level for the bunnies and road runners. They hold a gallon or two of water.
The deer empty things pretty quick, like the bird baths.

·5 days agoThose road runners may help with any snakes. They are quick and kill and eat venemous snakes. They can feed a snake down their gullet and swallow as their stomach acids make room for the rest of the snake if it's too big to swallow all at once. Tough little birds.
North of here Spokane is on fire and we are getting alot of smoke. Extreme fire danger in E. Washington. A dry grassy hillside just below the house runs down to the road down there.
I kept sprinklers wetting it down all day just in case. I keep a 15-20ft. firebreak cut but still...

·5 days agoI am hoping that between the road runners and myself, the copperhead population can be decimated, at least for this year. I have already seen them scurrying around on two occasions with small snakes in their beak.
I did look up road runner food, but there was nothing I can provide to supplement their diet as I want to keep them around. They have always been ~around~, but not on the property every day, most all day. I mostly saw them previously in the road, running around. Imagine that.....

Got my ears pierced over the weekend; it hurt, but it was very exciting! My piercer was very kind and patient with me. Soon I'll be able to wear my own jewelry!
It's a rainy day, but weirdly sticky. I can't say I'm a fan of this weather.
I've also been getting back into faux taxidermy! One day I'll get to work with real hides, but until then, paper mache and faux fur it is. I made a moon-themed jackrabbit head mount over the weekend! I'll try to get some pictures of her uploaded soon. I painted constellations in her ears and gave her crescent moon pupils; I like things that are a little weird and fantastical.

Today was a walking pickup just up the road from my house. Was on my way to get a photo of bones on a rock and pick up highway trash. Not all would fit in my bag. Apparently yesterday morning after leaving my package the driver headed up the road with a door open.
A real goat rope trying to let FedEx know that I have secured the items. AI keys in on one word and sends me in circles. Available 24/7 (AI, not a rep) Will have to call tomorrow. How can a driver not see these items fall out? Larger box is 22 x 18 x 13

Could sell cheap as it "fell off a truck".
I personally know the recipient (a business) of the packages. Some items damaged/some missing. Best that it go back to FedEx. Hopefully that will happen tomorrow.
Called Monday and finally got to speak with someone. Said they would pick up Mon or Tue. On Monday the FedEx driver put my small delivery box on top of the 2 that were to be picked up. Photo of such.
Today the FedEx driver put my large package on the grass next to the 2 that were to be picked up. Photo of such.
Got through to FedEx again on phone. Rep assured me that he did a call ticket to have them picked up on Thursday. We will see. Had to keep repeating that it was not "misdelivered" but never delivered at all. There was no "scan" as it fell off the truck onto the highway.
Took photos of the labels on both. Good thing I did, as one had faded a bit from the sun while lying beside the road where it fell from the truck and faded much more sitting outside fro pick up.
Speaking of "falling off a truck". Today as I went out for my mail there was a pickup truck driving slowly down the road with an elderly woman looking at the ground as they proceed along. Then another pickup truck driving slowly with a woman walking along beside it. Someone apparently left a cell phone on a vehicle when driving off and they were searching. Looking and listening as she said it was apparently ringing as they attempted to call.
About 2:30 this AM I found out the CG of my new recliner. I tried to slide back a bit more to make my feet more comfortable and ended up looking at the ceiling as it tipped backwards to the floor. Head was cushioned. Had my neck pillow on. Just a little surprise free ride that extra 22" to horizontal.

·yesterday at 4:18 AMWell, the one box with the blue nl logo had 3 smaller boxes of candles. Did not open the packing slip to see if complete order. They got their photo side the road where they tumbled from the truck onto the shoulder of the road.
Picture showing all was when all dragged to my yard. I intally found some of the kraft packing paper as it came down the highway with wind and traffic. (50-60mph) Scraps of the item packaging from small individual boxes was quite torn up. # 0150 fire lighters. Only one box still had merchandise. Thinking traffic may have taken it's toll, but found none of the contents of those individual pack on either side of the highway.
Another of the inner boxes, in good condition, has 4 battery operated camping water pumps. Then there were 2 still sealed smaller boxes with a quantity of # 1970 Aluminum Capsules. Probably 6-12 per box.
Don't know if there were more contents.
I suspect that someone is going to collect from FedEx for the loss, but likely would prefer to have that merchandise to put on the shelves to sell.

Thinking about this more, I think I would contact the "SENDERS" of the packages and give them the pictures of the grouping and the individual packages ( pertaining to them) and how you contacted FedEx. This way, the SENDER has proof of damage and if they can't collect for lost items.

2 raccoons on my deck tonight. Nothing out there except a greasy grill. Bird feeder was in. Forgot to bring it in a few days ago, and found it on the ground when I got up. It wasn't emptied. Perhaps the cayenne pepper power slowed the feast.

OP1 week agoYesterday I stopped at a "odd" food store that runs discounted items. Tons and tons of snack, but there is food and some miscellaneous items, too.
Picked up a couple of loaves of Pepperidge Farms bread for . . . . .50. Lots of snack at $1 that are decent sizes. Found puff corn with sour cream . . . OMGoodness. Now I wished I picked up a couple of bags. There was other things I picked up. I need to stop there a little more. I go pass the place every week and just don't stop.
This morning started to weed a client's garden and had to go home. The mosquito guy came while I was working and I wanted to get out of there for a couple of hours .
Had to transfer some of the water from a wheel barrow that was out in the rain. (I'm bad) was full of clean water.
Checked the front buckets and 3 of them were full of dead chipmunks. Emptied them on the arborvitaes, wash them and then fill with that rain water.
Now I can use the wheel barrow for all my own weeds.

I disposed of all the fly traps about 10 days ago that were mostly full and dried out and put out 8 new fly traps and yesterday topped off the water lost from evaporation over the last 10 days. All 8 were active to very active. Will have to keep checking the water levels thru the summer. Also ordered 8 more traps from AMZ.

This was the change date for one of my client's and I met up with ADT security to get things fixed at the client's home.
Made some collection stops and cleared off some accounts.
I decided to mow. Friday or Saturday there will be some rain so I am hoping it's safe to mow without burning out the lawn.
My farm neighbor was mowing and I asked him about MIlo.
Milo is living at their other farm, 2 miles from here. He seems to be happy . . . so far.

·1 week agoSpeaking of Winnebagos, I have been finishing up the scrapping of the landlord old class A motorhome job the scrap-heads left behind. It's basically down to the floor and it's interesting to see how these things are put together; mostly glue.
Anyroad, once I get the floor completely removed hopefully someone will haul the chassis and motor away so the landlord can bring out his other derelict class A.
I need to check out Tube U. for videos on how to take apart a class A motorhome.

·1 week ago · EditedIt was a fun project. Was just chatting with the two neighbors and the one, who has some expertise in this sort of thing, said it was worth about a $1,000 as scrap. So I said you should cut it up with a plasma torch (thanks@policequilts I thought that little tibbit made me sound knowledgeable :) and haul it in. He said it was to much work. The cousin said it would make a good hay hauler. I think we should drag it out to the road and put a free sign on it but I don't think the county would go for that.
Pro-tip : never remove the safety guard on an angle-grinder

Have several visitors. The deer/rabbit repellent spray has been keeping them off the plants I use it on.

·1 week ago · EditedThe weekend that started on Thursday is over as of this afternoon. I drove the cart for the boy to play 18 this morning. He chipped in for a par on a par 4 and holed a 15 footer for bogey on 18 which was a par 4. Had one other bogey in the round. Not bad for a 9-year-old. Gets mostly double and triple bogeys.
Got into the office about 4 and worked a couple of hours.
Billy-Bob showed up for supper and came right in my office, no worse for the wear. He sure did chow down, big time.
I put his litter box back in there as I decided he was to spend the night. Have not seen Fluff since breakfast yesterday morning. I suspect she has found a cooler place to hang out. @kritterkats
Addendum: 8:45pm, went down to make sure BB had plenty of water and Fluff was outside so she got some softfood.
Tomorrow looks to be a normal work day for a change and lookin' forward to it. Still feeling quite toasty around the edges.

·1 week ago@kritterkats yeeeeesssss, I think this dude ~may~ be a in and out type kitty. My wife has been lovin' on him. He has no issue coming in my office and back out. He is laying against the brick outside my office window now. Been cleaning himself up pretty good. We treated him and Fluff for fleas a few weeks ago.
We have a pair of roadrunners that have nested here or close by. I see them every day and just saw one trotting up my driveway with a snake in its beak. Good boy!!

Years ago when I had outside cats there was a down the street cat that would visit every day to see what was on the menu. A very good looking intact male that didn't cause trouble but was in the wrong place if he was looking to make kittens. One day I scooped him up and took him in for a neuter and an ear tip even though "he was not my cat". When he came back from the clinic he left and went back down the street. Couple of days later he was back and never went back down the street again. He never left my backyard again and he is still here buried under one of the pecan trees.
All my cats are now inside only but I do have an enclosed catio that they can go in and out of via a bedroom window.

I have a problem child that rules my office and the garage as her lair (air conditioned). She has not been allowed in my office lately and she dislikes BB with the utmost passion. Does not let any of the other 3 house cats in there. Hissing, growling, screaming, you name it....
It is an issue.
She loves the dog, though.
Creates a problem for me..... though I have been making it work. Not easy....

·1 week agoNot only am I out of boxes, I'm running dangerously low on tape; I'm scared my boss' lollygagging is going to cause problems with our shipment times D'X
I know that's not really my fault, but something that is (or, rather, was) is image sourcing. I used to use a single online-sourced image for the main image of fabrics that are incredibly intricate, but hopefully I don't need to tell anyone that that's potentially illegal, or at least not very nice to the copyright holder. I'll take all my own pictures from now on; lesson learned!
I'm trying to figure out how to photograph flat fabric without a shadow, but it's tricky! I've found it easiest if it's on a roll and I can drape it down and stand in front to photograph it, but I don't always have access to that kind of space. I'd usually use the sample book for reference, but don't want anyone thinking I'm selling swatches.
I'll figure it out, though; I'm clever enough.

Such a mess in the garage right now that it would be an effort to even have space to put them for a while. $5-10 yard sale items, but I don't want to have a yard sale. Put them out for free? Well, that was their current status. As I posted. I was able to drive by enough times that someone else got them.

If I can't sell it on eBay, it won't end up in one of my outbuildings.
I have a couple of air compressors I need to get rid of. They are taking up valuable floor space.
One of them belonged to my father. Never have used it. Been with me for 30 years.

·1 week agoI might have snagged one to use part of it if I had made more progress with the mowers that I picked up. They are taking up some room in the garage. 2 have good engines. The Poulan with 6.75 hp does not self propel. Don't think it ever will without more $$$ than I want to put into it. Mower too heavy for me when not on the flat.
Got the primer bulb for the Bolens with the 4.5 hp. Cleaned out gas tank. Tried a quick swap with a carb that I have but the base was thicker so mount bolt would not fit without modification. Fresh gas, air filter cleaned. Runs good. Have to take a look at the self-propel on that one. Will get an oil change if I am going to use it. May get one anyway if I decide to sell it.
Speaking of oil change. Wife's car is showing 1% oil life until recommended change. Guess I will be laying in the driveway for that change. Normally would be the garage floor.
3rd one. The one I may swap recoil and pull cord with my Weed Eater mower is sitting. Pretty cheap lightweight one. About time that I just swap that out and push that one out to the road.
Made another "gasoline run" today. $109.97 in free gas for my grocery store points.
Went to CU for some cash and Wally to grab a few things while in that town. It was a rainy day, so the ideal time to make to trip. Off and on misty drizzle most all day.

The self-propel units that don’t self-propel are a no-go in my book as well unless you are a younger stud or studess.
I quit doing my own oil changes about 15 years ago when I discovered that this quick lube place did them for $20 or $25 if I brought my own oil and filter. I can't remember exactly what I pay now for that service. I think it is $45. And they recycle the old oil. I can’t crawl around like I used to and getting on my knees is not advised at this point.
The frickin’ squirrels were up on the roof trying to chew their way into the attic once again. I could hear them gnawing when lying in bed. My son came out to pick up his boys and I had him get up on the roof and spray that deer/rabbit repellent all over the area where they were gnawing. They have been subdued at this point.
I am nursing a sore left knee from too much step-ladder work on the hanging baskets. I counted. I have 56. 19 of them are ferns. The roof is off limits for me at this time as I continue to baby this knee. I did go to the gym yesterday and did 20 minutes of incline walking. Survived that.

I read that the whole area east of Lake Winnebago has become a small tornado alley due to the cool air of the water stirring things up the.

OP1 week agoEarlier there was one in Lake Geneva that killed/drown 7 people. Lake Geneva is about 15 miles from me.
Menasha was the area that had more destruction in this last tornado

·1 week ago · EditedI scored a sheet and a half of 1/4 inch plywood today. It was a chore being glued down but it got it peeled up without breaking them. Funny thing too because I was explaining to Herself just the other day how I was going to get the neighbor to take me to Home Depot because I wanted 7 sheets of 7/16 inch wafer board which only cost $11 a sheet and then $50 for breakfast. Her response was : when are you planning this? To which I reeled in my neck rather quickly and said nevermind, I changed my mind. I can find what I need right here for free. Seems I was right.

Back at the "not seeing cardinals here where I live" I have temp solved that.
Now I have these trained and get to look at them most any time I go out the garage door.
And on another note I drove by these enough times that someone finally removed the temptation. Good thing I had the car and not the truck.

Billy-Bob made it back outside this morning to wherever his home might be. Finally walked outside while my grandson had the door open.
He and Fluff were together this morning.
Billy was in the house for 5 nights. He was looking a lot better. We shall see what he looks like next time he shows up here. He was still all scabby though no bloody or oozing scabs.
If he comes back beat up again. I will home him in my office again....

·1 week agoGot home from the lake about 1pm. Man, was it cookin' out there, drank 5 bottles of water. I know I have had over a gallon all together today, so far.
Had to then water the baskets when I got home. The fish are iced as I had to take shower #1 and get flat where I am now before going back out to clean fish. What a beating but the boy had fun. He is quite the trooper.
Took him for a cruise all the way down to the Tawakoni dam. The lake was perfect today with a breeze out of the south at about 10 mph. Sun was brutal. I have my tan on, lol.
I have ruled out the driving range for this evening but will take him to play 18 in the morning. Mom and Dad are picking him up mañana.
This heat did not use to bother me near as much as it does now. 58 was a lot better than 68.

The Farm babysitting is done.
I got to finally see their feral tom cat, Bosco.
I finished cleaning my client's home and went outside . . . WOW, the humidity was so bad that my glasses fogged up and my shirt became wet from all the moisture in the air.
It start to sprinkle and I stopped at the gas station to get something to eat. I get outside and the rain is going sideways. I got into my truck and about a mild down the road, and the truck cab fogged up and became to hot and humid. Barely made it on a back road to wipe down the windows. ( Never had this happened ).
Rained about 45 minutes and all the water buckets and barrels are full now. It did cool down some but the dew point is in the 70's.

OP1 week agoThere was suppose to be a storm last night.
Hmmm Invisible rain.
Another hot and humid day.
Finished one more garden and started on a couple others - at least the part that was in some shade.
Last day to take care of my friend's two farms before they come back from vacation. Finally saw their new feral cat.
This was going to be my easy week with one day of work, instead, through the weekend, I got calls from different clients and I have to work more days this week.
I had plans to work on the gardens or go to the farm and work on all that new stuff that is in the barn to sell off.

·1 week ago · Editedlakefor94 there's a nearby town that had a state-of-the-art all electric lumber mill back when everyone else around here was still using steam. But in order to run their all electric lumber mill they had to bring people up from the South because they had the Tennessee Valley Authority and had a handle on electricity.
Anyway since this place is isolated, and on a mountain, I imagine it has over the years retained some it Appalachia horse-sense.
Well, we lived at the bottom of this mountain and one day when a couple of guys from said mountain town were moving our daughter's household goods into in a cabin said when first looking into that little empty cabin, (that I just cleaned out), all you need now is a bucket and a banjo.

9 years old. They can learn just about anything at this age. Everything comes naturally.

OP2 weeks agoGot some more gardening done.
I still have a small section of garden 8 to clean up, but that one is on hold.
There is a lot of yuccas in this garden and I was going to do a full clean up on them. There are sections with old stock from the past year that need to be cut at the base. The roots produce threads when the mice get into them to make nest.
Well. . . I cut most of the stock on one grouping and started to pull the "threads". One batch had a mouse skeleton in it.
I went to clean out another area and see things flying out.
Got up and got away. Well, I found a nest of bumble bees. There had to be 100 of them. At least they really didn't chase me but they were trying to locate one of the batches of threads - must be their babies in that mess.
I did finish garden 9 and half way through garden 10.
I did manage to do some burning of branches and threw in the yucca stocks. I have 4 wheel barrows full of yuccas and really didn't make a dent.
Fletcher and Dottie enjoyed there time outside.
They found their catnip in the middle garden and "chilled".

·2 weeks ago · EditedI just got off my shift and the wife is downstairs crackin' the whip with the 4 grandchildren. She don't mess around and they mind her very good, lol. Ages 6, 8, 9 and 10.
I took the boys to the lake this morning and we hammered about 35 catfish. Caught a lot of dinks and brought 20 home.
The energy these children are equipped with is astounding. The boys were on the lake from 8:30 to 12:30 and they are still outside going at it at 7:30pm. It was over 90° today and still cookin' out there. Been making sure they get a lot of fluids, fruit, etc. They are relentless.
They are going home tomorrow at some point. Been here since Thursday. One good thing for sure, no tablets, phones, gaming or any of that crap. All engagement with each other and us. Sports, fishing, hiking, playing outside. We do let them watch some shows for chill periods..... lol.
Wife just marched the first one upstairs for showering. No one goes to bed dirty, lol.
I iced those fish and will clean them in the morning. Overall, I still have my work cut out tomorrow sorting through rubble around here. Might take the boys back to the driving range before they get picked up.

I am finding that I am getting older every year.

OP2 weeks agoWe had a couple of decent days in the high 70*s and not so humid.
Tomorrow, we start again with high humidity and temps in the high 80*s to high 90*s.
I did manage to weed and cut down 7 gardens so far. Hoping to finish #8 tonight.

·2 weeks agoYes we are supposed to have weather in the low to mid 80's for five days starting tomorrow and the smoke has eased up.
I had to come in from the heat today without finishing my chores. More to do tomorrow but not in the high 90's.....................

·2 weeks agoGlad to hear of the cleaner air, @roccotacodad54 . I don't see that smokey air here though we did have a dust storm for a day or two last year that blew in from west Texas.
Forecast has my area in low to mid 90's in the coming week which is tolerable for me.

·2 weeks ago@lakefor94 Dust storms. I lived in Yuma AZ at one time and worked at a custom body/paint shop there. The highway patrol would have rigs towed to our place for the ins. estimates.
One day a volkswagon beetle came in and was stripped to bare metal and the windows frosted on one side from a sand storm. Never heard anything about the people.................
