Buyer Beware How do I Report?
Looking for a DeWalt DCF 900B impact wrench I found several sellers that had a very great price. Unfortunately I found 7 sellers advertising the exact item and DeWalt logo but in fact are in reality cheap knockoffs. No where in their item description is this noted. The product is a cloned DeWalt product. Reported to EBay but informed that these sellers were found to be in compliance of EBay policy! False advertising is in compliance? Seriously? Help please.

·1 month agoi have also had an issue similar to this. I sell the exact picture I take of the item, and several sellers take my listing and make it their own when my items are authentic and original and theirs are knockoffs. Also, eBays AI is comparing my originals to their knockoffs and telling me I needed to come down on my prices.

·1 month agoCounterfeit items are not allowed to be listed on eBay at all. No one is authorized to sell counterfeit items. That fact alone does not stop some people from trying to sell them, however.
The problem is that unscrupulous or uninformed sellers can list genuine items and then deliver counterfeit items.
It is not always possible to look at a listing and know in advance exactly what, if anything, the seller intends to deliver. For one thing, a scammer can simply copy a listing from a genuine seller, using a genuine photo of a genuine item.
Except for a few specific categories of items that go through authentication, eBay never sees what the seller ships or the what the buyer receives, so there is nothing for eBay to check unless someone complains about what was received by invoking eBay's money back guarantee.
Sellers are responsible for the descriptions they provide, and buyers should not assume that eBay screens the listings in advance.
As long as counterfeits exist and there are folks trying to sell them, buyers will still have to be on the lookout for them, and avoid deals that are obviously too-good-to-be-true, whether they are being sold by accounts registered overseas or by domestic sellers wittingly or unwittingly buying counterfeits from overseas to sell here.
Buyers that doubt their ability to distinguish a genuine article from a counterfeit one should only consider purchasing from trustworthy sellers that have an established reputation for delivering exactly what was described, and should avoid deals that are too-good-to-be-true, or deals that are offered by inexperienced sellers that might disappear soon after the transaction is made, or else be prepared to get items authenticated by trusted sources within the time eBay allows to take advantage of eBay's money back guarantee.
Of course eBay could remove a listing that shows obvious signs of being counterfeit. But not every counterfeit or suspicious listing may be obvious to someone that does not have expertise in a particular area. And the sort of scammers that list counterfeit items do not simply give up and go away when eBay removes a listing or suspends an account; scammers are constantly creating new accounts or hijacking existing accounts, and posting scam items over and over again faster than eBay can possibly find them and take them all down. No matter how quick or how thorough eBay is, there is always a chance that some listings will get through or that some seller will advertise one thing but ship another, so buyers always have to be prepared for that no matter what eBay does.

OP1 month agoI would love to do as you suggest. However I’m elderly, live by myself, and am in a rural area away from those amenities therefore I rely on online purchases. On EBay I put in a search. “DeWalt DCF 900 Impact.” 7 sellers immediately pop up. All with great reviews! All describing a “DeWalt DCF 900 Impact.” Pictures, color, logo, specs, all DeWalt!! NOT SO. 7 sellers right off the bat after a search that only have a knock off not the real thing. Yes they were quite a bit cheaper but still dishonest scammers with a high so called rating. As an old guy watching my pennies I almost got taken but I investigated. Why won’t EBay? Because these sellers meet the policy???

·2 weeks agoHow do you know these are knock offs? What is it about the listing that tells you it's not a real DeWalt? I ask because I've sold many tools on eBay - though not many power tools - and I've not really seen this for name brand tools. The reason being is that many brands monitor tool resellers and will quickly report listing and sellers who use their brand names for knock offs and claims about products. When I first started out I was reported by Snap-on for just listing used tools with their brand. It was forced to add specific disclaimers to those listings to be allowed to sell Snap-on tools by name on eBay.

OP1 month agoThis is sad. After pinning down two sellers who admitted it was an unbranded item although advertised as a DeWalt EBay still says it meets their policy! Getting as bad as Marketplace.
