Mystery bisque head doll
Hello eBay community,
Does anyone know whether this doll is French or English and who the maker might be?
it’s got a full dome bisque head, blue glass paperweight eyes, pierced ears, wooden legs and very hard to decipher marks on the back of the head. She is 10†tall.

·3 years agoHi, Irina, The doll you have is an antique Belton (or Belton-type) open/closed mouth doll on a jointed composition body (I can't tell if parts of the body are wood but it is fine as it is). This type of doll is found on composition and wood bodies. The doll has beautiful blue stationary eyes, the wig looks original (human hair, I think), and the doll has pierced ears. An extremely charming and valuable little cabinet size doll, probably made in Germany. If you do an internet search using "antique belton pierced ears" you will see many that you can compare your doll to.

·3 years agoI don't think the head goes with the body. The head is too large, so the proportion's not right. The body itself looks like it may be put together from parts of different bodies. The torso and arms appear to be composition, which normally didn't use wooden legs.
I honestly believe the head is a reproduction of an antique French bisque -- French because German dolls seldom have a closed pate. The painting just doesn't look right for it to be original. The lips in particular are the wrong shape, and the brows lack the refinement of a French bisque fashion doll.
