Hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

Here's my 6 year old Reggie spreading some Christmas cheer!

    Reggie Christmas.jpg

Glad to hear that @whotoldya is home from the hospital!   That's great news.

I am doing ok..  Just working on figuring out what diet and supplement changes I need to make to improve my osteoporosis.   I don't want to go on the meds due to the risks, especially taking them long term.  I'm 60 and my numbers are just barely into the osteoporosis range so not that bad.

One of the things I learned from a Osteoporosis FB group was I need more protein so working on that as well as the usual suspects.

What a pretty picture of your dog and Christmas tree. I am guessing your color is blue. I hope your health continues to improve. The meds are not as bad as you think. My feeling is better living thru chemistry lol.

Have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year. Paws

What a handsome dog and gorgeous tree!

I have been on bisphosphonates since I was 50 and I am now 74.  I am currently on Prolia shots which have changed my osteoporosis to osteopenia.

A few years ago, I broke my ribs three times within one year.  So I went to an endocrinologist who told me to eat more dairy.  And I also now use Salmon Calcitonin nasal spray which is supposed to strengthen my bones.

I am still surviving and Dec 12 was the start of my 22nd year of metastatic breast cancer.

And I also just found out that I am BRCA2 positive and my gynie suggested preventative surgery to remove my ovaries and tubes.

This will necessitate more testing and I hesitate to have surgery at my old age.

I hope that everyone has a Blessed Holiday!

@whotoldyaI hope that you are now doing very well!

@denise15601  That's great that you were able to improve your bone density back to osteopenia.  I know that's especially hard with the chemo which can do a number on your bones.

My concern is they want to START me on Prolia and said that I can never stop it after that without using another drug or I can experience rebound and lose more bone.      Also that if I had to have an major dental work,  not likely, that I would should schedule it so that it's at the end of my 6 month Prolia dose due to the risk of jaw bone necrosis.  That scares me!

I hadn't been taking the best supplements or making sure I had several servings of dairy a day which I have started now.  Plus I have been taking collagen which is supposed to help.  I also realized I really wasn't getting enough protein because of the way we eat one big meal mid day.  So adding the dairy helps with the protein and the calcium, a 2 for one!

Not sure about this Dr too because she said that k2 is not important and my numbers actually had improved  from 2.4 to 2.3 with only adding it.   Lots of talk about K2 being needed for D to go to the bones.

I probably will end up seeing a Naturopath Dr before I decide what to do.

Osteonecrosis of the jaw is very rare.  It is more common with breast cancer patients who have bone mets.  They need chemos that are bone strengtheners for their bones, which in very rare cases can cause osteonecrosis.

I have no plans to stop my bisphosphonates since a broken hip is pretty scary to me.  I have had major dental surgery while on them with no problems, including a bone graft.

Good luck with a naturopath, which I would never go to.  Maybe they would help you, but so many BC patients take all kinds of weird mushroom stuff or dog dewormers for their BC.  None of those have been proven to be helpful at all.  In fact, they will keep the chemo from working.

Collagen would be good also for your hair and nails.  But since it is estrogenic, I don't dare take it since it would feed my cancer.

@whotoldya  Here's a picture taken by a cousin as we were leaving Keith's brothers house.  We had 19 people and 7 dogs!  5 of the dogs are my sister in laws, she's a dog groomer so she has taken in more than a few hard luck cases over the years.

Keith and I are in the middle back row.  His brother Doug and wife Anne are on the sides.

In front is my 89 year old feisty mother in law.  Sibyl, she makes the joke that she lives up to her name of the old movie Sibyl, and it's true!
