What kind of art is this? Any help appreciated.
I was told this picture was from Germany. The lady said her mom brought it back while visiting there quite a few yrs back. She said the glass is painted black and then the pic was scratched out and silver was added. Its a pic of s smoking pipes crossed. Looks old. The bottom of the frame has some little holes. Might had hooks in it at one time for keys etc. I would guess not original. Measures 17" x 6" I would appreciate any help on this. I have no clue. Thx 🙂

·2 years agoI imagine the holes were for hooks, from which you could hang something -- pipes, maybe, given the theme, or keys, or whatever.

On paper, this is called "scratch art" and it's often done on prepared scratchboard -- which is white board paper coated with black ink, The ink is scratched away to create the image. I don't know if you can rightly call this "scratch art" or not, but it's worth doing a bit of research along that line.

·2 years agoWe call them folk art , hand painted/drawn and then framed over crinkled tin foil..at least the several we have came across had been constructed in that way..
