Rug Information Requested - is it Native?
I got this rug years ago at a resale shop and wondering if it's possibly native and possible was a saddle blanket? There are little tabs (shown in last photo) where you could slip a strap through.
I have no clue. Heavy wool and certainly looks handwoven. Thank you in advance for any intel you may have!
thank you all again!

·2 years agoNo, it is not Native American. The fringe is the give-away. The Navajo are the only Native American tribe that weaves rugs, and because of the way they are woven, on an upright loom with a continuous warp, there cannot be fringe on both ends.
Before someone jumps in to "correct" me by noting fringe on the so-called Germantown rugs: That fringe was added. Those rugs were few and far between. This is definitely not one of them.

It's Turkish slit-weave and Maxine is 100% correct in saying it's not NA.
