Need help identifying artist and painting
Hello,
A potential client asked if I know anything about this painting and artist. I've done some research but haven't been able to find anything.
The painting is signed EARL in all caps in the lower right.
Does anyone know anything about this piece and artist?
Thanks much!

·1 year agoIt seems that some may see my remarks as un-helpful, ill-placed and even hurtful. Those remarks are actually meant to be much more helpful than throwing unearned praise upon an inferior attempt at artistic expression. Unjust praise can actually stunt artistic development; if everyone heaps that praise on a bad work how is that person able to grow at this painting craft? Anybody, even apes and elephants can produce images with the help of humans to produce "art". I stand by my original comments.

·1 year agoI think it’s safe to say you can tell your potential client that, after more than 100 pairs of eyeballs have looked at the painting with no definitive identification, there is no monetary treasure here.
Given the amateurish appearance, it’s possibly an effort by a family member. Maybe sentimental value for someone, though. Many of us have these on our walls and they give us pleasure and good memories when we view them.

·1 year agoAs any fan of Bob Ross knows to make water look flat (as it appears naturally) the lines in the water need to be horizontal to "look" right.
The ones in this painting are NOT horizontal and it makes the water look higher on one side than the other, something an untrained person might do....But they obviously did not watch Joy of Painting w/ Bob Ross on PBS. 😉

·1 year agoThe lines are a bit off of the horizontal, downward slightly on the right, but I think the attempt was there.

ETA: I appreciated your post as made in a kind manner. I'm sorry if my reply came off as anything else.

·1 year agoIt's a really bad rendition of a location by an untrained person with art supplies.

·1 year agoIs there an "M" before the EARL? If so perhaps this is your guy. He/she seems to have liked this particular scene. I'd take the info with a grain of salt though unless your research shows otherwise.
