Just got destroyed by someone's bidding bot, SO unfair
I understand bidding bots are nothing new, they allow a user to "snipe" a bid for a set price a second before the bidding ends, but this bot I just ran into was RIDICULOUS. I was bidding on 10 different anime figure lots from the same seller, they all had like 1-3 bids and were at current highest bids ranging from $0.99 to $12.50. I had waited until there was about 30 seconds left, and then set my max bid at anywhere from $25-$35 per lot. I was winning each lot, then in the last 2 seconds every auction was swept away at the same exact time for $0.50 more than my max.
I'm so distraught I lost all these auctions, but yeah yeah I know if I really wanted it I should have just set a higher max bid. Guess I just want some sympathy, and also advice on where I can get a bidding bot of my own so I don't have to carefully micromanage 20 tabs just to be disappointed.

·5 years agoSorry to hear that,. My preference is to buy at estate /yard sales and if I see something I really want I just go for it with wild abandon. Grab an run. There is no comfortable place to be with a low bid hoping for a score and on ebay if I see similar items going for $50.00, Ill put in the absentee at 100.00 and usually get it for $78.00 etc. I've never had ebay run me up, it's always against legit other bidders. Cover your bets and you win some and lose some.

·5 years agoUnless you have a strong emotional attachment to some particular item offered for sale, it's wise to refrain from overbidding, remembering a day will come for you to sell it.

·2 years agoAh yes, we all know how in real auctions no one has a chance to throw out a counter offer because someone said a number .1 second before the hammer fell.........
