·6 months agoCreation time: "Jiyou" is a year in the Ganzhi (Stem-Branch) calendar. Considering Liao Zhengxing's active period, this should be the year 1909 (the first year of the Xuantong reign).
Author: Liao Zhengxing was a master of porcelain painting from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China. He specialized in矾红 (fan hong, a kind of iron-red) lion motifs and was also the teacher of the renowned artist Fang Jiazhen. His surviving works are rare and possess high artistic value.

·6 months agoLate Qing to Republic of Period, double-eared large vase with "Taishi Shaobao" design in alum red. This is a typical Jingdezhen folk kiln porcelain.
The body is painted with one big lion and several small lions in bright alum red on white glaze. In Chinese culture, "lion" sounds the same as "teacher". The big lion stands for **Taishi** (Grand Preceptor), the small lion for **Shaobao** (Junior Guardian), both high-ranking official titles in ancient China.
The pattern symbolizes **good luck for official career, prosperity and success for generations**. This large vase was usually displayed in the hall of wealthy families, showing social status and wealth.
