This is 14.5"without the base. I am including photos of the statue and the artist signature. I would appredciate any help. I posted this before and can't find it, sorry!
The last 3 letters look like "nez" and the first looks like an O or a Q. Making me think Quiñónez? Maybe? I tried to pull up the lights and darks for a better read, but this was the best I could manage:
It looks like a female agriculture worker of African descent with her son, so while of course I originally thought it was an American plantation subject, the possibility of a Spanish derived artist's name makes me wonder if it's from the Caribbean/"West Indies" islands.
If you can do a rubbing of the sig, great, if not, try flour, paprika, baby powder or similar to bring up the contrast of the letters.
Have you tried to use a pencil and paper to try for a better version of the signature? You know, put the paper over the signature and rub a pencil over the paper covered signature, using the side of the lead? It might help you read it better.
I found something that is similar in size, and is of a barefoot AA woman also wearing a head covering, but as much as I try, I'm not exactly seeing the artist's name who made it in your signature. The piece that I found was sold at auction, and it said it was signed, but they only have 1 pic. None of the signature. Artist was Jeune Garcon with a mark under the c. French I guess?

@ltldpr, actually, I think that statue is of a young boy.
I don't know if it's the same artist, but that statue is by Sidney Beck, and Jeune garçon is the title. It means "young boy" in French. I scrolled through other examples of the artist's work on that website, and there were several of Jeune garçon but I didn't see any that were like OP's statue.

·2 years agoDid you try Google lens? Be sure to use a plain white background. It has helped me numerous times.
