Greek Icon 27 x 36 cm on panel - St. Spyridon - possible late 18th or early 19th Century -value?
Found this recently at a Southern California swapmeet - seller said she had obtained it at a neighborhood wide garage sale in West L.A. some years earlier. All she could recall was that the elderly possibly Persian lady she bought it from was getting rid of stuff she had inherited from her Father. Wondering probably age and value? My research shows that it's St. Spyridon associated strongly with Corfu Greece and that it's in the so-called Heptanese School of Greek Icon painting (1780-`1860). There is some obvious paint loss/damage but even a very light cleaning revealed the colors you see. Even got the bottom inscription translated with the help of AI: "Prayer of the Servant of God Spyridon Zmirneou July 26".

·5 months agoI don't think anyone here can answer your questions any better than the information you got from AI. Your best bet is to take it to an art appraiser. And if I were you I wouldn't clean it if it is a painting and not a lithograph.
